Consumer Affairs and Financial Assistance Program (CAFAP)

The Consumer Affairs and Financial Assistance Program (CAFAP) helps soldiers and their
families achieve successful economic lifestyles by teaching them to smartly manage their
financial resources. With offices located on Army installations throughout the world, CAFAP
provides advice and information about budget planning, banking, credit, debt management,
consumer laws and rights, business scams, and preparing for deployments or permanent
moves. CAFAP counselors also provide debt-liquidation services and encourage soldiers to shop
around for credit and services that most affordably suit their needs.

Army Emergency Relief (AER) www.aerhq.org

Army Emergency Relief (AER) is the Army's own emergency financial assistance organization
and is dedicated to "Helping the Army Take Care of Its Own". AER provides commanders a
valuable asset in accomplishing their basic command responsibility for the morale and welfare
of soldiers. AER funds are made available to commanders having AER Sections to provide
emergency financial assistance to soldiers - active & retired - and their dependents when there
is a valid need. AER funds made available to commanders are not limited and are constrained
only by the requirement of valid need.

The Military One Source supplements existing family programs by providing 24-hour, seven
days a week toll free information and referral telephone line service available to active and
mobilized reserve component (RC) Soldiers, deployed civilians and their families worldwide.

National Foundation for Consumer Credit (NFCC) www.nfcc.org

NFCC is the nation’s largest and longest-serving national, nonprofit credit counseling network.
With more than 1,000 community-based agency offices nationwide, NFCC Members help over
1.5 million households annually. More commonly known as Consumer Credit Counseling Service
(CCCS), its members can be identified by the NFCC Member seal. This seal signifies high
standards for agency accreditation, counselor certification and policies that ensure free or low-
cost confidential services. Your local NFCC office can be located by calling toll-free at 1-800-
388-2227. NFCC is headquartered in Silver Spring, Maryland.
