Communication from the Chair

The chair gave the status for the funds that were released for the first quarter of the first
year of the project with the aim of building a prototype of two seater electric car. He
confirmed that all the money that had been budgeted for the first quarter was deposited
in the respective accounts and the procurement of all the required equipment was
ongoing.

The chair encouraged the team to look at the development of this first prototype was
key in establishing this technology in our country. He gave an example of a city in
Switzerland which banned the used of automobiles that burn fossil fuels and thus
encouraged the team to be inspired by such successes elsewhere.

Integration of the automobile technology in to the curriculum at the faculty would be

very vital for this project. He said there were plans to make a collaboration with the
Ugandan Police department to set up a vehicle testing center in Makerere university
which work closely with this project.
The chair said the project is closely looking at achieving the first two goals for the
project which are to set up an automobile design lab and build a prototype. Against this
he stressed the point that 4 Graduate Research assistants were already on board to work
full time with the project. These were to work with some students from different
programs with in the faculty.

The GRAs were yet to sign the Terms of Reference and receive the appointment letters.
He concluded by saying the technical meeting shall be held every Monday at 12pm and
urged the team to make preparation for the meeting before hand. He also said that with
time, there would other external personnel to come and attend the meetings

Progress reports from all the teams for the project

Mechanical Team

The team reported on the work done so far which was mainly modifying the chassis
design to incorporate the motor and gearbox at the front.

Comments

 Make unique simulation cases for the design

 Name the analysis that is being done to provide a better clear follow up on what
was accomplished
 The team was requested to submit in the specification for the design to the
procurement department before it was too late
 The team was told to give a clear training program for the new recruits

Electrical Team

The team reported on the Pedal applications for the prototype

Comments

 The team was told to make clear reference points for the designs it is carrying out
 The team was asked about the powertrain but the team could not do more work
on the powertrain without the simulation software in place

Communication Network Team

The team reported on the development of the OS for the micro controllers
Comments

The team was asked to give clear references as well that it was using as a guide for the
development of the systems

Design Team

 The team had been given a task of developing the logo for the prototype which it
presented to the project team and the logo was approved.
 The team also had been given a task to design the design lab and come up with
architectural drawings for the lab which it had done partly

Comments

 The team was asked to finalize the logo which was approved
 The team was told to design the lab to only utilize the space within the building
without any extensions or any alterations of the old building structure

Concluding Remarks (Mr. Hillary Kasedde)

He urged the team to work closely together since this was the first multidiscipline
program project

He also urged the team to make consultations more often
