Projects and Internships

1.In Plant Training at Paper and Pulp Industry(Khanna paper Mill ,

Amritsar ,India)
June July 2005
Khanna Paper mill is the seventh largest paper industry in India (www.khannapaper.com).
Done 2 months In plant training in these mills. Spent some of my time studying Thermax boiler which had a
processing capacity of 100 TPH steam. There was a shut down when I was there, so also got experience of
start up of boiler. I also studied various kind of pulps that were produced after recycling the paper.

2. Interfacial Vortex formation of thin film flow on inclined plane into

pool of same fluid.
Guided by:-Dr.Deobopam Das ,IIT Kanpur
March to May 2005
Main objective was to study the vortex that are formed on the gravity driven flow on incline plane at various
flow rate of fluid and at different orientation of the incline plane( varying inclination angle).Thin film of
thickness 500 microns was allowed to fall in the pool of fluid (our focus was based on the vortices formed on
the interface of flowing film and this pool fluid).Thin film with Raleigh instability and fingering effect
produced two dominant vortices on the edges of the flowing film and several vortices were observed along
the interfacial length. All the data was extracted and various non-dimensional numbers were plotted. We are
in the process of writing a paper on this to be published.

3.To minimize the derailment of the trains:-

Guided by:-Prof.V.K Jain ,IIT Kanpur
January to April 2005
It was an automatic electrically supported mechanical model. There were light sensors attached near
the wheel and the track ,when ever there was the case of derailment or accident the electronic circuit
sent the signal which switched on the motor of mechanical system comprising of worm and worm
wheel mechanism attached with the spur gear which clamped whole of the train with the track , hence
minimizing the derailment. It is the very practical model which can be adopted by Indian Railways
with a few improvements.

4.Project proposal to develop an alternate to STM,AFM:-

Guided by :-Prof. Ashutosh Sharma
September To October 2004
It consisted of perpendicular magnetic and electric field and the small iron piezoelectric iron particle
prepared by sol-gel method which were spread on the surface to be analyzed and the particle being
piezoelectric ,the charge was induced and attracted towards the source of electric field. On its way it was
deviated by magnetic field to the detector which gave the topography of the surface .This proposal was
accepted by Indian Institute of Science, Banglore for KVPY candidates.
