The topic of this documentary is about the racism that goes on in the
sports industry and how it should be stopped. I have chose to
analyse this documentary because although the angle is different to
my idea, the topic is the same, which is about sports, also I want my
documentary to be in a similar style to this one. The angle of this
documentary is showing how racism in sports is a bad thing in sports.
Presenter is not shown, only a voice over is heard, which sounds like
a middle aged male. The location of this documentary is mostly in
sport stadiums, this shows the audience that this documentary is
specifically aimed towards sports. In this documentary there is an
interview with a young male, who explains that racism in sports is not
right and also gives the audience information about which other types
of sports have this issue. This documentary is aimed towards a
biased interest which is sports, so it only really appeals to people who
are interested in sports related issues. In this documentary to explain
the issue they show real life examples of sports players and fans
being either the cause or the victim of racism. In this documentary
they also shown professional sports players backing up the issue,
this gives the audience a sense of reliability.

Potential Audience for text

This documentary I think is aimed at people who are interested in

sports. The potential audience for this documentary is from 18-30,
mainly male, but also female. In terms of ethnicity, I think this
documentary is aimed towards everyone since it is about racism. The
interests of the potential target audience group of this documentary
would be either watching sports, taking part in sports or generally
interested in sports. The location of the audience for this
documentary would be in cities and towns, places where sport is
popular. The socioeconomic group of the audience for this
documentary would be from A-E, meaning everyone, this again
shows that this documentary could appeal to generally everyone.
Key Influences on your Idea - Content and Form

I think that this documentary has influenced my idea a lot because I

can use elements from this documentary in my work:

Camera: a range of long and close up shots have been used; I can
use these shots in my documentary to make it look more eye
catching.

Editing: They have included fades between some shots and also
they have shown graphics were needed, I can use graphics in my
documentary in order to give the audience information.

Music: mix of fast and slow music, the type of music used relates to
what is going on in each shot, for example when a sports player
would be racially abused, the music would go slower and calmer. I
can use this technique in my documentary to show the audience the
different parts in the documentary.

Opinions: They have opinions from professional sports players and a

member of the public, I could use this in order to make my
documentary more reliable.

Use of conventions: In this documentary they have used many

conventions such as archive footage of examples of racism taking
place in the sport industry and a voice over who explains what is
going on throughout the documentary. This can help me because in
my documentary I can also include these conventions and by
including them my documentary will look more professional and
informative.
Use of Camera

A range of camera shots and camera movements are used

throughout this documentary, which include:

Long shots: This shot is used to show sports matches

taking place.

Zooming in: This show is used to show sports player’s

facial expressions.

Zooming out: This shot is used in this documentary a few

times for example when they show a sport players T-shirt,
the camera slowly zooms out of the T-shirt.

Panning/tracking: this camera movement is used to show

the crowds in sports matches and is used when the camera
is following the sports players on a pitch.

Use of Sound

Voice over: The presenter’s voice is heard through most of

this documentary.

Background music: The background music is heard all

throughout the whole documentary. (Mix of classical and
drumming music)

Dialogue: Dialogue is heard from sports players when they

are talking about their past experiences of racial abuse in the
sports industry.
Use of Editing

Graphics: The title of documentary and name of author is

shown at the beginning of this documentary by appearing on
the screen in a spinning motion.

Cuts and fades: cuts and fades are used between most shots
in this documentary.

Editing: This documentary has a mixture some fast paced

shots and some slow paced shots.
