This year, too, the FMS paper had four sections and the standard pattern of 175
questions. However, the overall difficulty level was not so high as compared to last
year.

The Quantitative section was easy, with questions on Algebra, Logarithms,

Mensuration, Co-ordinate Geometry (Straight Line), Plane Geometry, Calculus
(Differential as well as Integral) and Modern Maths. Seemingly, the questions were
rather straightforward.

The Reading Comprehension & English Usage sections were difficult. A lot of questions
were based on Logical and Analytical Reasoning; the questions in Analytical and
Mathematical Reasoning section were tough to say the least. The language, as well as
the correct sequencing of the options, was not really up to the mark as that of FMS
papers of yesteryears. Moreover, there were lots of errors in the paper.

Since there were four sections, the number of questions you should have attempted is
dictated by your average accuracy level. For example, with an accuracy level of 90%,
one could have attempted 95+ questions. However, if the accuracy is of the order of
80% to 85%, the attempts should have been above 100.

English Usage:
The questions in this section were of a moderate to difficult level. The words given for
analogies, fill in the blanks and synonyms were tough in terms of knowing their
meaning. Other questions, such as classification into maxim, paroxysm, diatribe etc.
were also quite difficult. However, some questions such as those on idioms, quote and
unquote were of average level of difficulty. A student with basic grasp over English
Usage and understanding of the language could have easily attempted these questions.
Hence, while around 20 questions were quite tough to crack, about 10 to 15 questions
were a cakewalk. Overall out of 35 questions in English Usage, 22 could have been
easily attempted.

Reading Comprehension:
The passages given were all of high difficulty level with the topics focusing on subjects
like Psychology, Economics, Intermingling of senses, etc. There were 5 passages with 8
questions each. Hence, the RC section had a total of 40 questions.

One could have attempted around 28 questions on an average, keeping in mind that they
were varied with being very direct and others quite inferential in their tone and, hence,
difficult to answer.

Quantitative Ability:
This section was heavily bent towards Algebra, Mensuration, Co-ordinate Geometry,
Calculus, Arithmetic and Plane Geometry. However, the questions were very simple and
some of them could have been cracked within mere 30 seconds! Hence, in this section
one could have scored the maximum within a very short time.

Though there were many incorrect questions and several more had no correct option
present in the answer choices, this particular section left many exam takers perplexed.

An attempt of 23-25 questions with correct attempts of around 21-22 questions should
be good enough.

If one has attempted about 21-23 questions with 18-19 of them being correct, one should
have scored around 70+, which is a good score.

The cut-off for FMS-MBA program would be around 340– 345 and for FMS–MBA
(Management of Services) program, it would be around 290 – 300.
