 PREFACE

Why?, is the question that comes to my mind when thinking about what I have done to the
New Testament Bible. Back in March 2009 as I was saying my evening prayers, I heard a still
small voice that said read the Bible. Several days later I heard it again. I knew that it was not just
my imagination that was talking to me, so the next day I started to read the Bible. I didn’t know
where to start. I got my weekly church bulletin, found the daily Bible reading plan, and started
from there. I also found TBN, Trinity Broadcasting Network, and The Church Channel, and
followed along in the Bible the sermons of the many preachers that were aired on these networks.
I made video tapes of the sermons so that I could go back, study the sermons, and search for
meaning in those areas that I did not understand.

After following this plan for some months I found that I was more confused and was not
making any progress in reading the Bible. The lessons or sermons would jump from the Old
Testament to the New Testament. They would jump from one verse or two in one book to
another verse in a completely different book. I often found that by reading one verse from a book
of the Bible I had no meaning or context for understanding the point that was being made. Most
of the ministers that I watched would have their sermon prepared and pull from the prepared
verses to make a particular point and to bring the audience to some understanding of the sermon.
I wanted to understand the Bible. I had a hunger for knowing the truth of the Bible.

I heard many sermons about God’s promise of increase, God’s promise to bless the
seeds that I sow, the need to tithe to the church, the promise of grace, the nature of lack, and
many more sermons that I did not completely understand and believe. I mean, I heard what was
preached and understood the point of the sermon but somehow I did not own the reasoning
behind the sermon. And that was what I hungered for. I longed to believe. I wanted to
understand within myself what I read and what I heard so that, it became a part of me.

What I discovered was that understanding came when I read an entire chapter of a book.
Meaning came when I could surround a particular verse with other verses or the entire chapter of
a book of the Bible. I was able to gain a reference for a particular verse that was being quoted in
a sermon. So, after much trial and error, I stopped following weekly readings and stopped
listening to preacher sermons. I just began to read the Bible itself.

I started with the New Testament, the Gospel of Matthew and read through to
Revelations. As I read I found myself wanting to underline or highlight the passages that had
meaning, that gave understanding, but could not bring myself to write in my Bible. I wrote out

vers: 1 - 29 (Avoiding judgments) (19)

Do not judge, that you may not be judged. 2 For with what
judgment you judge, you shall be judged; and with what measure
you measure, it shall be measured to you. 3 But why dost thou see
the speck in thy brother's eye, and yet dost not consider the
beam in thy own eye? 4 Or how canst thou say to thy brother, 'Let me cast out
the speck from thy eye'; and behold, there is a beam in thy own eye? 5 Thou
hypocrite, first cast out the beam from thy own eye, and then thou wilt see clearly to cast out the
speck from thy brother's eye. 6 Do not give to dogs what is holy, neither
cast your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet and turn
and tear you.

who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him
who knocks, it shall be opened. 9 Or what man is there among you, who,
if his son asks him for a loaf, will hand him a stone; 10 or if he asks for a fish, will hand him a
serpent? 11 Therefore, if you, evil as you are, know how to give
good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in
heaven give good things to those who ask him!

St Mark: Chapter 7

vers:1 - 37 (The Pharisees question Jesus)

AND the Pharisees and some of the Scribes who had come from Jerusalem
gathered about him. 2 And when they saw that some of his disciples were eating bread with defiled
(that is, unwashed) hands, they found fault. 3 For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat
without frequent washing of hands, holding the tradition of the ancients. 4 And when they come
from the market, they do not eat without washing first. And there have been handed down
to them many other things to observe: washing of cups and pots, and brazen vessels and
beds. 5 So the Pharisees and Scribes asked him, "Why do not thy disciples walk
according to the tradition of the ancients, instead of eating bread with defiled hands?"

(Jesus calls them hypocrites)

6 But answering he said to them, "Well did Isaias prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is
written, 'This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me;
7 and in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrine the precepts of men.' 8 For,
letting go the commandment of God, you hold fast the tradition of men, the washing of
pots and of cups; and many other things you do like to these."

(He accuses them of breaking God's law)

9 And he said to them, "Well do you nullify the commandment of God, that
you may keep your own tradition! 10 For Moses said, 'Honor thy father and thy mother';
and, 'Let him who curses father or mother be put to death.' 11 But you say, 'Let a man say
to his father or his mother, "Any support thou mightest have had from me is Corban" (that
is, given to God). 12 And you do not allow him to do anything further for his father

VER. 3. It was characteristic of the Pharisees to insist on the binding force of traditional interpretations of the Law, which they
termed the "traditions of the ancients," even at the expense of the Law itself. This resulted in frequent frustration of the Law
and laid unbearable burdens upon the law-abiding Jew.

VER. 10. Ex. 20:I2; 21:17; Lev. 20:9; Deut. 5:x6.
VER. 11. Corban, a gift to God which could be put to no other use. A son could evade giving support to his parents by declaring Corban
what might have been given them. Jesus here illustrates how the Pharisees' teaching frustrated the Law of Moses.

St John: Chapter 3

vers: 1 - 36 (Nicodemus comes to Jesus, at night)

NOW there was a certain man among the Pharisees, Nicodemus by name, a
ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to Jesus at night, and said to him, " Rabbi, we
know that thou hast come a teacher from God, for no one can work these signs that
thou workest unless God be with him. " 3 Jesus answered and said to him, "
Amen, amen, I say to thee, unless a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom
of God. " 4 Nicodemus said to him, " How can a man be born when he is old? Can
he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born again? "

(Jesus explains rebirth)

5 Jesus answered, " Amen, amen, I say to thee, unless a man be born
again of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is
spirit. 7 Do not wonder that I said to thee, ' ' You must be born again.' 8 The
wind blows where it will, and thou hearest its sound but dost not know where it
comes from or where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit." (People
born again of the Spirit do not know how the process of their rebirth takes place or where the rebirth comes from but they can feel the newness of person and
being of a new spirit.)

VER. 1. Ruler, i.e., a leader in the community; perhaps also a member of the Sanhedrin. Cf. 7:50f.
VER. 5. The word "Holy" is added to Spirit in the Clementine Vulgate.
VER. 8. This brief parable indicates to Nicodemus that there are mysteries even in familiar natural forces. Hence he need not be
surprised if the truths of the supernatural order appear mysterious.
 II Corinthians

II Corinthians: Chapter 1

vers:1 - 23 (Greeting)

PAUL, an Apostle of Jesus Christ by the perfect will of God, and Timothy
our brother, to the church of God that is at Corinth, with all the saints that are in the whole
of Achaia: 2 grace be to you and peace from God our Father and from the Lord
Jesus Christ.

God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the

3 Blessed be the
Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all
our afflictions, that we also may be able to comfort those who are in any distress by
the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted by God. 5 For as the sufferings
of Christ abound in us, so also through Christ does our comfort abound. 6
For whether we are afflicted, it is for your instruction and salvation; or whether
we are comforted, it is for your comfort; which shows its efficacy in the
endurance of the selfsame sufferings that we also suffer. 7 And our hope for you is
steadfast, knowing that as you are partakers of the sufferings, so will you also be
of the comfort.

Ephesians: Chapter 1

our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

3 Blessed be the God

and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who
has blessed us with every spiritual blessing on high in Christ. 4 Even as he
chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and
without blemish in his sight in love. 5 He predestined us to be adopted through
Jesus Christ as his sons, according to the purpose of his will, 6 unto the
praise of the glory of his grace, with which he has favored us in his beloved Son.

7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the remission of sins,

according to the riches of his grace. 8 This grace has abounded beyond
measure in us in all wisdom and prudence, 9 so that he may make known to

VER. 5. The purpose. The original Greek reads "the good pleasure." This Epistle insists repeatedly on the gratuitous character of
the divine gift of redemption.

remains, any of you should be thought wanting. 2 For to us also it has been declared, just
as to them. But the word that was heard did not profit them, since they had no
faith in what they heard. 3 We then who have believed shall enter into his Rest,even
as he said, "As I have sworn in my wrath, they shall not enter into my
Rest." And indeed his works were completed at the foundation of the world. 4 For
somewhere he spoke of the seventh day thus, 'And God rested the seventh day from
all his works"; 5 and in this place again, "They shall not enter into my Rest." 6 Since then
it follows that some are to enter into it, and they to whom it was first declared did not
enter in because of unbelief, 7 he again fixes another day to be Today, saying by David after so
long a time, as quoted above, "Today if you shall hear his voice, do not harden your
hearts." 8 For if Josue had given them rest, God would never afterwards be speaking of
another day. 9 There remains therefore a Sabbath Rest for people of God. 10 For
he who has entered into his Rest, has himself also rested from his own works, even as God
did from his. 11 Let us therefore hasten to enter into that Rest, lest anyone fall by following
the same example of unbelief. 12 For the word of God is living and
efficient and keener than any two-edged sword, and extending even to the
division of soul and spirit, of joints also and of marrow, and a discerner
of the thoughts and intentions of the heart, 13 And there is no creature hidden from his sight;
but all things are naked and open to the eyes of him to whom we have to give
account.

VER. 2. It has been declared. The Greek has, "For we too have had the good news, proclaimed to us, just as they had. But the word
they heard did not profit them because it was not mingled with faith on the part of the hearers."
VER. 3. Ps. 94:11. Shall enter. The Greek text reads, "are entering," or, " do enter."
VER. 4. Gen. 2:2.
VER. 8. Josue, in Greek, "Jesus." The reference is to successor of Moses.

VER . 17. The Spirit, the holy Spirit. The bride, the Church of Christ.
VER . 20. I come quickly. These words are those of Christ. This is the same phrase which has appeared six times previously repeated
for the seventh time.
VER . 21. The Greek Codex Sinaiticus has “The grace of the Lord Jesus be with the saints.”
