PAID APPRENTICESHIP OPPORTUNITY


2011 SCIENCE & ENGINEERING APPRENTICESHIP (SEAP) PROGRAM

SEAP is an Office of Naval Research sponsored and funded program is


seeking highly motivated students for their eight week summer program.
Participants receive hands-on experience in the fields of engineering,
science and computers in a research and development and test and
evaluation environment. The program begins June 20, 2011 and ends
August 12, 2011. Interested students must apply online at

National Portfolio Day is an opportunity to meet with the representatives


from institutions offering professional programs accredited by the National
Association of Schools for Art & Design. Fifty-six of the nation’s leading
art colleges & universities will travel to MICA to review your artwork,
discuss your educational & professional goals and share information on art
programs, careers, admissions & financial aid.

GLORIES’ HAPPY HATS needs high school student volunteers to be


trained to help with the assembly line part of making hats for children at
Children’s Hospital in DC. Contact Katie Clinton, director of FCCPS
daycare for more information.

STUDENT CONSERVATION ASSOCIATION is looking for high school


students, age 15-19, to serve on a conservation crew for 3-5 weeks in the

JAMtech takes place over a single day and gives students an opportunity
to design and build some kind of application, simulation, or serious game.
Each JAMtech has a theme along with a software platform.

INFORMATION FOR JUNIORS…


• Juniors will begin receiving College/Career Center passes through
their 3rd block class. If you are unable to keep a scheduled
appointment, please let Mrs. Bracken know so she can give your
meeting time to another student.

ACT, SAT OR NEITHER…As you begin your college search, make sure
to pay attention to standardized test requirements for admission. Many
colleges and universities are eliminating the need to take the standardized
tests (go to www.fairtest.org) or asking for a combination of SAT and IB or
AP tests. Criteria changes from year to year and school to school so be
sure you know what is required before you apply.
