PRACTICUM PROGRAM PRIMER

RATIONALE

The Department of Legal Management envisions itself to be at the

forefront of contributing to legal education in the Philippines and the Asia-
Pacific region by training Bedan Legal Management Majors to be holistic
professionals – fully human, wholly Christian, and truly Filipino – who are
ready to respond to the challenges of a global business-legal environment.

Guided by the Bedan values of Fides (Faith), Scientia (Knowledge), and

Virtus (Virtue), the Department aims to realize its vision by providing Bedan
Legal Management Majors with a learning environment that espouses the
Benedictine core values of ora et labora, community and the pursuit of
peace; and a curriculum that bridges two professions: a career in business
with a strong legal background.

The Program aims to produce competent graduates who are

 well-versed in the basic principles and processes governing the

Philippine legal system and the intricacies of law as applied to
business;
 possessed with practical knowledge of basic management
principles;
 adept in research, problem solving, and analysis; and
 prepared to face the demands of law school, and ultimately, the
challenges of the legal profession.

To help achieve these objectives, incoming senior students are

required to undergo a summer internship/on-the-job training program in an
organization of their choice. As the Legal Management major is immersed in
a simulated work environment, he or she is able to apply the theories of law
and business learned in the classroom. The training experience will not only
give the student insights on available career options–it will also instill
professionalism, commitment to excellence, and uncompromising work ethic.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

The Practicum Program aims to attain the following objectives:

 Equip Legal Management majors with the skills expected of

them in the industry;
 Impart to students the significance of their chosen career;
 Work hand-in-hand with companies in developing professional
programs beneficial to Bedan Legal Management majors;
 Update the curriculum of the Legal Management program with
reference to the changing demands of industry; and
 Provide the industry with professionally competent Filipino
Bedan Legal Management graduates who are aware of their role in

3
the society, and are committed to serve, lead, teach and be
witnesses of Christ and the Catholic faith.
