INTRODUCTION
Bakhtawar Amin Memorial Trust, Northern Bypass, Multan was established in April, 1999.
It is a non-governmental, non-political and non-profit charitable organization. The Board of
Trustees was always moved by the plight of the poor. It realized deeply that a large segment
of population in Pakistan was living below the poverty line and it was in dire need of genuine
support from the affluent class of society. Then it flashed into their minds that there could
not be a better idea of serving the lower strata of society than the establishment of the
present Trust to serve them on permanent basis.
Prior to the establishment of the Trust an outdoor dispensary was setup in January, 1998 at
Masoom Shah Road, Multan. The response was encouraging and the Board of Trustees
decided to establish the Trust and accordingly it was formed and registered by the Sub-
registrar Urban Multan under the Trust Act of 1882 vide registration No. 3164/1 dated 08-
05-1999. Trust is also duly certified by Pakistan centre for philanthropy (PCP).
The list of the members of the Board of Trust and its governing body is stated below

Keeping in view the deficiency of health care facilities available to the population of the
Southern Punjab in general and the population of the Multan Division in particular, The
Trust decided ultimately to establish Bakhtawar Amin Memorial Trust Hospital, Northern
Bypass, Multan. In order to obtain this challenging objective a big piece of land
measuring about 12 acre was purchased on Northern Bypass, Multan for a handsome
amount. A renowned architect was engaged to design a 500 bedded hospital. The
present designed hospital would consist of 7 blocks as under:-
The proposed covered area spread over 7 blocks is 352000 Sqft and 125,000 Sqft of 4
residential areas around 43% land has been left for roads, parks, parking sheds and
landscaped areas to meet with environmental requirements and to give a touch of
natural beauty to the hospital. The estimated project cost of the hospital is Rs. 2 Billion.
The design of the building provides a blend of modern and traditional architecture in the
shape of purpose built teaching hospital, laboratories, operation theatres and residential
area.

Hospital Complex. As a result new residential colonies are developing. At
present Model Town and WAPADA Town are rapidly developing. A host of
other colonies like P.I.A. colony, Green Fort Town, Green Fort + Town and

More than 90 % of
total patients, who
visit BAMH every year,
belong to hand-to-
mouth economic
category. More than
often they are not
able to bear the cost
of medical treatment. BAMT helps these patients
keeping aside their religion, color, residence or other
distinction. During last ten years, from 1998 to 2009,
the Social Welfare Department of BAMT has provided Rs 244.43 million in welfare
assist ance for physical wellbeing of targeted poor community.
One in every ten is suffering from Hepatitis in our community. We live with threat of
being infected every day. As we all know
Hepatitis falls under the category of
communicable disease. Problems arise
when a patient infects a healthy person
just because he himself does not know
that he can transmit the disease he can
be more conscious.

A piece of land of about 12 acres situated just opposite to the hospital and across the road,
belonged to the Government of the Punjab. The Provincial Government was approached to
allot it to the Trust on payment at market rates. The Government after taking into
consideration the noble cause of the Trust and evaluating its performance was kind enough
to allot this piece of land to the Trust on market price of Rs. 11.6 Million. It would be used
for construction of the Medical College, Hostel for students, Nursing School, Allied Research
Institutes and Training Centers for different disciplines.
The Trust was approved under Rule 214 (5) of the Income Tax Rules 2002 read with Section 2
(36) of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001. Hence donations given to the Trust enjoy exemption
from the ambit of Income Tax.
Accounts of the Trust are neatly and accurately maintained. These are absolutely
transparent and open to inspection at all times. The accounts are duly audited and certified
by M/s Javed Chaudhary& Co. Chartered Accountants, Lahore.
BAMT can safely say that whatever it has done so far has been done solely, without any
external support. However, for translating the upcoming projects into a vivid reality, saving
more lives and educating more people about their rights, BAMT is looking for potential
partners, support organizations, funding agencies and corporate sector (for joint ventures
under CSR) to be its ally in the war against pain and sufferings.
BAMH is sustainable, in its present shape, by generating funds in under mentioned ways:
• BAMT: Bakhtawar Amin Memorial Trust’s trustees generously supply resources, and
their monthly donations are disbursed to welfare patients through Social Welfare
Department. The average monthly support received so far is Rs. 03.34 million per
month.
• Hospital revenues: Hospital's revenues are also meant to add to the wellbeing fund.
• BAMT Commercial Plaza: The revenue of Rs. 0.14 million generated from the
BAMT Commercial Plaza is put to the side and exclusively used to support free
Health services & medicines at Community Health Centers.

FUTURE PLANS
In order to cater the increasing workload of patients and bring health services within the
reach of deprived people of Southern Punjab which they just dream of, BAMT has following
endeavors in coming days;
We are in the process of establishment of an Orthopedic Sports Injury Center, which will
be the first of its kind in southern Punjab to provide the treatment for the orthopedic
injury patients. We have already purchased most of the machinery and to get the
remaining, we require Rs. 3 Million more.
Heart attack is the leading cause of deaths in Pakistan. At present, about 41% deaths in
Pakistan are occurred due to Heart Attacks. This number can be decreased by early
diagnosis and treatment. Both are out of the reach of the poor strata of the society.
BAMT has accepted this challenge and is going to establish Cardiac Care Centre at its
Hospital. To achieve this, BAMT has purchased two states of the art Cath-labs and its
accessories for angiography and angioplasty. To install the machinery and to hire the
appropriate human recourse, we are lack of Rs. 5 million.
Second Block
Day by day, the number of deserving patients approaching Bakhtawar Amin Trust
Hospital is increasing due to free of cost modern medical facilities. To cater the future
Page 20 of 21
Bakhtawar Amin Memorial Trust
requirements and accommodate new departments, we need to build the second block
as initially designed. Total construction cost of the new block is about Rs. 85 million.
Nursing Hostel
Hospitalization in true sense means Nursing Care. To facilitate specialized around the
clock nursing care availability for patients, at present BAMT has established a Nursing
Hostel within the premises of the Hospital which provide boarding facility to 20 female
Nursing and paramedic staff members while for male paramedical staff a nearby place is
rented. To meet the hospital expansion and to consolidate the boarding facilities at one
place, BAMT has planned to construct Nursing Hostel with in the vicinity of its Hospital
as initially designed.
Majority of the Patients come to Bakhtawar Amin Memorial Hospital from far flung and
remote areas. They are mostly from the deserving class and don’t even have funds for
medicines and medical Treatment. To facilitate the attendants of such patients who
cannot afford any boarding lodging, BAMT has planned to construct a Sara-aye with all
the basic amenities. This project will cost around Rs. 6.00 million.
Transportation Facility
Medical College
In Pakistan, every year, about 30,000 bright students pass F.Sc premedical examination
in First Division, securing over 65% marks and desire to join medical colleges. Out of that
pool of young and talented students, only about 4000 students are able to secure
admission in medical colleges and the remaining about 26,000 do not succeed though
they are very keen to join this profession.
Out of these unsuccessful candidates, about 800 go abroad to Russia and other former
Soviet republics, China, Bangladesh, Philippines and Caribbean states for medical
education costing huge sum of foreign exchange to the families and to the government
spending 5 to 7 years and obtaining degrees which are not recognized by PMDC.
Resultantly, they are not able to practice in Pakistan and the time and money are wasted
aimlessly. Establishment of standard medical college in Pakistan in private sector will
benefit such Pakistani students, save the Government of Pakistan's valuable foreign
exchange and help to overcome the shortage of trained health professionals in the
country.
