The Indian National Congress (INC) also known
as Congress party. It is a major political party in India. The
congress party was established in 1885. The congress party
played a major role in the independence of India. For long
time off period congress party has the monopoly in the Indian
politics. In India most prime-ministers are from the congress
party. Mostly congress leads India for eight times.
The
congress party is currently under the leadership of the Sonia
Gandhi. Sonia Gandhi joined the party in 1999. In the
congress party mostly the leaders from the Gandhi family
itself, like Indira Gandhi. The congress party mostly led by
the Nehru-Gandhi family for most of the part.
In the 2009 general elections, the
congress party emerged as the single largest party in the Lok
Sabha, with 206 of its candidates getting elected to the 543
members house. Consequently, it along with a coalition of
allies called the United Progressive Alliance(UPA) was able
to gain a majority and form the government. There have been
repeated attempts by the Indian nationalist groups such as

India. The Indian National Congress played a
very big role in driving the Indian message to
fight against British company. INC gained the

Extremists ideals
mainly guided the second phase of the Indian National
Congress from 1905 to 1919. They advocated that the
adoption of Swaraj as the goal of the congress to be achieved.
• Mizoram.
• Manipur.
•Rajasthan.
Controversies:-
The congress party dominated the politics
of India for over a century. There are many charges of
corruption and any other charges.
State of emergency (1975-1977):-
In 1975 the Allahabad high
court declared the election void, but Mrs Indira Gandhi
rejected it. By using her strong parliamentary majority, her
party had amended the constitution and altered the balance of
power between the central and state in favour of the central
government. She had twice imposed President Rule. Gandhi
moved to restore order by ordering the arrest of most of the
opposition leaders. Her cabinet and govt. Then recommended
that president declare a stste of emergency, because of the
disorder and lawlessness following by the allahbad high court.
It is one of the most controversial periods in Indian history.
Anti-sikh riots(1984):-
Congress workers including Jagdish
Tytler and Sajjan kumar were accused of inciting and
participating in sikh riots. It is done after the assassination of
10
Weakness:-
Congress party have the following weakness:
Dependence on allies:-
The congress party mostly dependent
on the other parties to the majority in the assembley. This
allies harm the party for many time. The allies has their own
demand that is harmful for it and for the nation.
Supports the Muslim community:-
Congress party supports
the Muslim people so the other community like Hindu don’t
like it. BJP claims that the congress party is the Muslim party.
14
Controversies:-
There are many controversies with the
congress party like anti Sikh riots (Blue star),
emergency etc.
Don’t have the support of the RSS:-
Like BJP congress
don’t has the support of RSS, so they don’t have the support
of the vast network of the RSS. RSS don’t support it because
they think that congress support the Muslim community not
the Hindu. Other thing is that Sonia Gandhi is not belongs to
the India so they don’t support the congress.
Family leader:-
In the congress party mostly the main leader
is from the Gandhi family. There is no other person that
became the chairman of the congress party. The leadership is
continued from family to family. So the people don’t have the
faith in the party.
Opportunities:-
Followings are the opportunities of congress.
• The party is in power of the five states and in centre.
• The image of the Sonia Gandhi has been improving.
• In the past few years congress has attracted people from
different political camps.
15
Conclusion:-
After analysis of the congress party we can say
that at the present time party have the majority. The party is
the oldest party in Indian politics so it connected with people
from the long time.
Policies and programs are very good
because they are related with the people and beneficial for
them. It is the major party of India in it more young people
are involved, they work hard and with great passion.
In 2009 congress
comes with the very big majority in the Lok- Sabha. It has the
majority in the 7 states and in 3 states with alliance. To gain
the high attention of the Hindus they should change their
strategy because Hindus thinks that congress party is the
Muslim party and it supports the Muslim people.
