‘Beauty and the Beast’
opens Dec. 3 at Ramsdell
Manistee’s historic Ramsdell Theatre
stage is set for the 2010 Christmas pro-
duction of the musical “Beauty and the
Beast.”
A classic story retold for all ages,
the Disney theatrical production will
be staged at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and
Saturdays, Dec. 3, 4, 10, and 11, and at 2
p.m. on Sundays, Dec. 5 and 12.
Tickets are available at the website
www.ramsdell-theater.org and can also
be ordered by telephone at (800) 836-
0717. The Ramsdell Theatre box office
will be selling the tickets beginning at
noon on Dec. 1, and continue ticket sales
from noon until 4 p.m. and on show
dates from noon to 8 p.m.
The story begins with an enchant-
ress casting a spell that turns an unkind
prince into an ugly beast (Jeremy
Engwall) and his castle staff into house-
hold objects. Guests are forbidden, but
Lumiere (Sean Gilbert), the former butler
turned candelabra, takes pity on Maurice
(Robert Isble), Belle’s father and an
eccentric inventor, and invites the lost
man in.
The beast discovers the intruder and
throws him into the dungeon. Belle

Meanwhile, the village brag-
gart, Gaston (Robert Lata), who is all
about “Me,” has set his sights on Belle
as his wife and refuses to accept her
“no.” His efforts to capture Belle, if not
her heart, lead the villagers to attack
the castle and a battle takes places. The
fight is not without frightening moments
as Gaston and the beast confront each
other, but, because this is a fairy tale, it
ends happily ever after for all.
The other fantasy characters that live
in the beast’s castle are Madame De La
Grande Bouch, The Wardrobe (Kathryn
Stansell); Mrs. Potts, the teapot (Elizabeth
Zupin); Cogsworth, the clock (Ryan Fark);
Chip, the cup (Blade Gates); and Babette
(Casey Granada).
Jackie Karnisz is directing the produc-
tion, Adrian Cole is the musical director,
Kathleen Mielke is assistant director and
Kit Weiner is the choreographer.

oculoplastic surgery, which is

She also performs more
traditional forms of eye surgery,
including cataract and Lasik
procedures. Dr. Wu has joined
the practice of Dr. Andrew
Riemer at Riemer Eye Center and will see patients at all four
of the center’s locations in Ludington, Manistee, Shelby and
Cadillac. Dr. Wu is a member of the American Academy of
Ophthalmology. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree
from the University of Wisconsin, majoring in genetics, and
her medical degree from the University of Wisconsin Medical
School. She completed both her internship and ophthalmology
residency at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak,
Michigan. After residency, Dr. Wu completed a yearlong
fellowship in her subspecialty of oculoplastic surgery in
Southfield, Michigan. In addition to her professional interests,
Dr. Wu is an accomplished figure skater and also enjoys cross
country skiing, indoor climbing, art, swing dancing, tennis and
canoeing.

their way back to becoming human
again, and they invite her to “Be Our
Guest” while they try to find a way to
make her and the beast fall in love.

more like a prince and even though he
wonders if he will ever become the right
kind of man for her, “If I Can’t Love Her,”
eventually their arguing turns to friend-

fruit cups, pudding cups, instant oatmeal, tuna
and chicken snack packs (nothing with pork),

Jerky, Slim Jims, micro wave popcorn – mac &
cheese – Ramen Noodles – Cup of Noodles,

packaged, nothing homemade.

powder, band aids, hand and foot warmers, white

they can send home, (stamps not needed), cold
tablets, aspirin, cough drops, tampons, panty-
liners, playing cards, black thin knit caps for
under helmets, games, puzzles, books, sport
and car magazines, non-lithium batteries – AA,
AAA, C & D, beanie babies, match box cars,
and crayons to give kids, nail files, combs, black
& brown hair pins, small Kleenex packs, A&D
ointment, razors, and anything you would like to
receive if you were a long way from home.
Drop Off Location
The temperature in Iraq and Afghanistan
reaches 120 degrees plus in the summer
and occasionally they have snow in the winter.
Many live in tents. It is now getting colder,
similar to our weather.
We get our addresses from the web site
anysoldier.com. If you go to that site, you
will learn how it began… A soldier asking his
parents to continue sending packages to him so
he could share them with the soldiers who never
get any mail. That is what we do… We send to
the volunteer soldier address with “Attn: Any
Soldier” on the box. That volunteer soldier
watches to see who didn’t get mail and then our
Care Package goes to that lonely soldier.
If you know of anyone who is serving in Iraq or
Afghanistan, please send us the address and
we will be sure to send them a Care Package
as well. As of now, we have sent 670 Care
Packages since October 2007.
We recently received a US Flag that had been
flown over a Marine Corps base in Afghanistan
on July 4, 2010, along with a certificate of
appreciation for supporting the troops serving
there.
