About CityMedia Foundation
• An independent foundation based in Lausanne (Switzerland)

• Started in 2007 following the Rome 2006 “World Congress on Communication for
Development”

• 65 members in 15 countries contributing to product and services development


and promotion

• Aim: to facilitate access to information on the towns, cities and regions of the
world helping in in global development by simplifying communication, access to
information and knowledge sharing ,stimulating curiosity, learning and respect,
synonymous for evolution

• Also offers and promotes tools to city and region representatives to spread
official communication and collaborate on a wider level for development
About City Media members
• 65 members from 15 countries who are contributing to these systems’
development and promotion
• Mainly from fields of communications, marketing, management and technology
analysis
• Working continuously in close contact to improve the available tools and create
new tools for local information
The Concept
• A network of 68,000 city specific video sites promoting direct local information
delivery through video

• Launched on 10th Oct 2010 by CITY MEDIA foundation

• Currently covering city tour, news, events and professional videos on the cities
and regions of the world

• A simple access model: “city name” followed by “.vi”. For eg. Dubai.vi, Seoul.vi,
Berlin.vi . Neat, isn’t it?

• Visit the central network page City.vi to look for new cities

• You are among the first to know about the network. So spread the word around to
friends , family and colleagues
Emergence of Video on Internet
• Video is the fastest growing online segment apart from social networking
• Video sharing among the most popular application on social networking sites
• Video sharing sites like Youtube among the most popular on the net
• Today’s Youth see video as a fundamental form of expression
• In 2012, Internet video traffic alone will be 400 times the traffic carried by the U.S.
Internet backbone in 2000
• Internet video has grown from 12 % of the global consumer Internet traffic in 2006
to 34 % in 2009 according to Cisco Visual Networking Index. It is expected to rise to
40% by end of 2010
• Internet Video is largest traffic type even if we exclude peer to peer video sharing

1. Citizens upload relevant videos of the city / region on the specific City.vi site

2. The site administrators are informed by email of the upload

3. Upon approval the videos appear on the site

• Simple operation to optimize local on-line communication by ensuring maximum participation

• Cities with most quality videos to be promoted to city.vi network benefiting from high
international coverage

• Collaborative nature where citizens and users can share videos on local culture, future events or
current affairs embodying “Citizens’ Information Pooling”

• Easy and wide spread user generation of videos due to increased use of digital cameras,
camcorders and mobile phones for video recording
