Challenges

Integration between SPF and the Tools is crucial for a central tag registry.
Currently integration does not exist for all tag types for the ’ootb’ applications

This is an ’Off the Shelf System’.

Require in-house configuration according to company standards.
Requires time to determine what is ’Out of the Box’
What is required to be configured to ensure an ’up and running’ system.

Each tool requires a talented Administrator

Require much more knowledge in IT (operating system, networking and databases)
 Still require good engineering knowledge
 Positive ’can-do’ attitude

 Management Support
Support for time and resources is essential
This is not a tool that is immediately ’up and running’ after installation

November 23, 2010 – 27 – SmartPlant Enterprise – Experience The Power

Challenges (cont..)

 Communication and Training

 Effective communication channels
Between tool administrators and between administrators and end-users
End-user training of tools and work processes
This is a new approach to engineering and is confronting for some engineers.

 Testing
 Easy to introduce problems.
Remember this is an integrated system

 Change Management
Configuration and data dictionary changes must be co-ordinated and managed

 Work Process Management

Determining a effective engineering work processes
Managing exceptions to the defined work processes

LAST WORDS…..

This is a vision we believe in!

And although we face many challenges….

If you start such a project and want to succeed:
Be prepared to stick your head out
 Be ready for a ’fight’!
 Never give up!!
