Answer all questions

1 A stuntman on a motorcycle jumps a river 3 A golfer strikes a golf ball which moves off at
. which is 5.1m wide. He lands on the edge of . an angle to the ground. The ball follows the
the far bank, which is 2m lower than the bank path shown.
from which he takes off,

The graphs below show how the horizontal

and vertical components of the velocity of the
ball vary with time.

His minimum horizontal speed on take off is

A 2.0ms-1
B 3.2ms-1
C 5.5ms-1
D 8.0ms-1
E 9.8ms-1

What is the speed of the ball just before it hits

the ground?
2. A car has a velocity of10ms-1. It then A 10ms-1
accelerates for 10s at 2ms-2.
The speed of the car at the end of the 10s is: B 30ms-1
A 10ms-1 C 40ms-1
B 20ms-1 D 50ms-1
C 30ms-1 E 70ms-1
D 40ms-1
E 50ms-1
5. A car travelling at 30ms-1 starts to brake 6. An object attached to a parachute falls from
when it is 50m from a stationary lorry. The a helicopter which is hovering at a height of
car moves in a straight line and manages to 120m above point X.
stop just before reaching the lorry. The object falls with a constant vertical
component of velocity of value 12ms-1. A
What is the deceleration of the car in ms-2? steady side wind gives the object a constant
A 0.6 horizontal component of value 5ms-1.
B 4.5
C 9
D 10
E 18

How far from point X does the object hit the

ground?
A 24m
B 50m
C 60m
D 120m
E 150m

4. A screw falls from a lift which is travelling

upwards at 2ms-1.
The speed of the screw after 0.5s will be:
A 2ms-1 downwards
B 2ms-1 upwards
C 2.9ms-1 downwards
D 2.9ms-1 upwards
E 9.8ms-1 downwards
8. The velocity/time graph shown below is for an object moving with constant

7. An archer fires an arrow at the centre of a target which is 30m away.

The arrow is fired horizontally from a height of 1.5m and leaves the bow with a
velocity of 100ms-1.
The bottom of the target is 0.9m above the ground.
Show by calculation that the arrow hits the target. 3

9. A plane drops food supplies of mass 750kg to soldiers in a restricted area. It drops the
food when it is exactly above the soldiers base. The plane is at an altitude of 3000m
and has a constant horizontal velocity of 90ms-1.

(a) (i) Calculate the gravitational potential energy of the supplies before they were
dropped. 2
(ii) Assuming there is no energy losses during the fall, calculate the final
velocity, magnitude and direction, of the supplies just before they reach the
ground. 4
(b) (i) Calculate the time taken for the supplies to reach the ground. 2
(ii) The soldiers have to stay within 2km of their base. Would the soldiers be
able to retrieve the supplies once they have landed? 3
