What is the Light?

(1Jn 1:1) That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes,
which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life--

• Science defines something being real as being available to our senses. therefore by only the
rules of science, God has existed in the form of man.

(1Jn 1:2) the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the
eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us--

• Manifest to US. Not to glorify himself, but Christ became a man so that we could have the
chance to be saved.

(1Jn 1:3) that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have
fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.

• How do we have fellowship with God?

1. Through Prayer and fasting
2. Through His Holy Word
3. Through Worship

(1Jn 1:4) And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.

(1Jn 1:5) This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in
him is no darkness at all.

• Speaking of darkness and light we have to understand what light and dark are.
1. Gen 1:2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep.
And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
Gen 1:3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.
Gen 1:4 And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the
darkness.
2. (Joh 8:12) Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows
me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
3. (Joh 1:5) The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

(1Jn 1:6) If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice
the truth.

• How important is it to have fellowship with God? Can't we just accept him and be saved?
• We must do more than say we are in fellowship with him.
• If we are to truly be a child of God we must strive to ...
1. Know Him. How are you supposed to know anybody if you don't spend time with
them?
2. Obey Him. How are we to know what he wants us to do if we don't meditate on his
word and prayer.
3. Glorify Him. We do this with our words. Our actions. Everything and anything that we
do or have in our life

(1Jn 1:7) But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the
blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
Disciple's Cross We are his masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10)

(1Jn 1:8) If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

• Who are we trying to deceive? We certainly cannot deceive God, maybe others, but most of all...
OURSELVES.
• For all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God. (Romans 3:23)

(1Jn 1:9) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.

• (Php 2:8) And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the
point of death, even death on a cross.
• Jesus humbled himself as a human and then died in humility for us who don't deserve
salvation. The least we could do is humble ourselves to tell the truth. THAT WE ARE
SINNERS! WE DESERVE HELL! WE NEED JESUS!
• Don't be too proud to do it on your own, because you can't earn salvation on your own.

(1Jn 1:10) If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

• If we say we have not sinned, not only have we deceived ourselves, we have dishonored God
who humbled himself for us.

Bottom Line____________
• We need Jesus
