NOTE FOR ASSISTANT LOCO PILOT & ASSISTANT STATION
MASTER :
Candidate applying to Category No.20 (Asstt.Loco Pilot) &
Category No. 21 (Assistant Station Master) must meet the
standard for vision and colour vision specified in Annexure-C.
They should have their vision checked by competent eye
specialist and obtain certificate on Format of Annexure-C
which should be enclosed along with application in original

1.GENERAL INSTRUCTION :
1.1 The posts are temporary and likely to be made permanent.
1.2 Emoluments on initial appointment will minimum pay of the
grade plus Dearness allowance admissible. Selected
candidates will be posted any where on concerned Railway
after successful completion of training wherever
applicable. They will be paid stipend during their training
period as admissible. They will have to give security deposit
and execute Indemnity Bond wherever necessary.
1.3 Recruitment against quota earmarked for persons with
disabilities (PWD) - suitability of post identified for persons
with disability is indicated in column no. 13 against each
post. Kindly note that these are only indicative in nature and
the final authority for deciding the suitability of post for PWD
rests with the Chief Personal Officer of the Zonal
Railway/Production unit concerned.
1.4 The vacancies shown above are provisional and liable
to vary. In case the vacancies, for any category is
reduced or even made nil, RRB is not liable to
compensate the applicant for any consequential
damage/loss. On selection candidate may also be
posted to any Zonal Railway other than indicated above.
1.5 Vacancies of Ex-Serviceman given in the table are

1.6 Apart from signing on photograph, the candidate is
required to sign below photograph at the place in
application form. The signatures on application form,
Answer sheet, Question booklet, Admit card and other
places should be identical. Signatures at the time of
application, written exam, interview or document
verification in different style may result in cancellation of
candidature.
1.7 Candidates on the date of sending applications should
have already passed the qualifying examination. The
candidates who are appearing in Examination or waiting
for final results need not apply. The educational
qualification should be acquired from recognized Board/
University/NCVT/SCVT otherwise the candidature will be
cancelled.
1.8 The candidates who have been debarred from all RRB
examinations or the period of debarring such candidates is
not completed, need not apply. Their applications will be
rejected.
1.9 Any subsequent changes in the terms and conditions of
this Employment Notice, the extant rules will stand good.
1.10 Candidate belonging to SC/ST/OBC who fulfill required
Educational/ Technical qualifications, Age can apply under
UR vacancies. They will however have to compete with UR
candidates. No request for change in community will be
entertained in any circumstances.
1.11 Selection/Recommendation by RRB does not confer upon
candidates any right of appointment in Railways.
1.12 The entrance in examination is provisional as applications
are checked thoroughly later on. If candidate does not fulfill
any condition given in Employment Notice, his candidature
will be cancelled at any stage, whenever the discrepancy is
noticed.
1.13 Thumb impressions must be clear and complete in
application form (Specially middle portion). Ridges must
be seen clearly.
1.14 Selected candidates who are finally appointed are liable to
Serve in Railway Engineering Unit of Territorial Army.
1.15 Date of examination and result of examination are
published in Employment News. Call letters for written
examination/ rejection advice are sent to applicants by
post (UPC). RRB will not be responsible for postal delay or
wrong delivery. RRB does not send reply to candidates
who are not selected in written examination. The above all

1.16 No request for change of examination centers, date or time
will be entertained.
1.17 In case of any differences between Hindi & English
Version the notification of English version will be final.
1.18 Ladies are also eligible. However, it may be noted that
vacancies in many categories involve duties, which are
arduous in nature and call for working in shifts at odd hours
and at roadside stations away from HQ also.
2. METHOD OF EXAMINATION, SYLLABUS AND
SELECTION PROCEDURE :
2.1 Two Stage Written Examination will be conducted for Ticket
Collector, Train Clerk Enquiry cum reservation Clerk, Goods
Guard, Sr. Clerk Cum Typist and One Stage Written
Examination will be conducted for rest of the Categories. In
addition, aptitude test for Asst. Loco Pilot & Asst. Station
Master shall also be conducted. However the Railway
Recruitment Board at its discretion may hold additional written
test (s) / skill test (s) and/or interview it considered necessary
for all or a limited number of candidates as may be deemed fit
by Railway Recruitment Board.
ON LINE TEST THROUGH COMPUTER CAN BE
HELD FOR SOME OR ALL OF THE CATEGORIES.
2.2 MEDICAL FITNESS TEST:
The candidates recommended for appointment will have to
pass requisite medical fitness test(s) conducted by the
Railway Administration to ensure that candidates are
medically fit to carry out the duties connected with the post.
Visual Acuity Standard is one of the important criteria of
medical fitness of railway staff. Candidates are not eligible
for any alternative appointment if they fail in the final
medical examination conducted by the Railways before
appointment, for any reason. The medical standards for
different categories are outlined below:
A-1 Physically fit in all respects. Visual Standards -
Distance Vision: 6/6, 6/6 without glasses with fogging
test (must not accept + 2D) Near Vision: Sn: 0.6,0.6
without glasses (must clear Fogging Test). Colour
Vision, Binocular Vision, Field of Vision & Night Vision
must be present.

certificate from a Registered Eye Specialist as per
prescribed format. (d) candidate who do not fulfill the
prescribed medical standard need not apply.
2.3 Syllabus for the written examination will be according to
educational standards required for the post. Question
papers of the examination will be of objective type including
General Knowledge, General Intelligence, Mathematics
and/or Technical subjects prescribed for the post. 1/3rd of
the allotted marks will be deducted for each wrong
answer/Multiple answers.
2.4 Normally the examinations will be conducted in cities under
the jurisdiction of RRB Bhopal but depending upon number
of candidates and other circumstances, the examinations
can be conducted in other cities also.
2.5 The candidates who qualify will be called according to
merit, availability of vacancies and reservation rules for
verification of their certificates/ documents/ candidature.
2.6 After document and candidature verification the
successfull candidate will be empanelled and panel of
selected candidate will be forwarded to The Chief
Personnel Officer of the allotted Railway recommending for
their appointment. The further formalities for appointment
will be done by the concerned Chief Personnel Officer.
Selection of the candidate by RRB/Bhopal does not confer
any right to the candidate for apointment in railway.
3. AGE :
The age will be reckoned as on 01.01.08. THE UPPER
AGE LIMIT RELAXATION ADMISSIBLE TO THE
CANDIDATES IS AS UNDER ON PRODUCTION OF
CERTIFICATE :-
3.1 By FIVE YEARS to SC/ST candidates, THREE YEARS to
OBC candidates on production of certificate in prescribed
format given in this notification and issued by competent
Authority.
3.2 The Date of birth of a candidate for different age group
should be between the dates as given below. (both dates
inclusive)

3.3 Serving Railway employees including Casual Labour who
have put in a minimum of THREE YEARS service will be
given age relaxation upto overall age limit of 40 years in the
case of General candidates 45 years in the case of SC/ST
and 43 years in case of OBC candidates. A certificate
showing all the particular should be enclosed along with
application form.
3.4 In the case of serving staff of Quasi Administrative Offices
of Railway Organization such as Railway Canteens,
Railway Institutes and Railway Co-oprative Societies who
have put in 03 years service, relaxation of age will be given
to the extent of service rendered by them subject to a
maximum of 05 years and upper age limit of 35 years.
3.5 For widows and Divorced Women who have judicially
separated from their husbands and not re-married, will
have age limit upto 35 years in case of General
Candidates, 40 years in case of SC/ST and 38 years in
case of OBC.
3.6 By FIVE years to the candidates who had ordinarily been
domiciled In the Kashmir division of the state of Jammu &
Kashmir during the period from the 1st Jan. 80 to the 31st
Dec 89, subject to production of a residential certificate
from the competent authority of the state of Jammu &
Kashmir.
3.7 No age relaxation is allowed to SC/ST/OBC candidates
applying against unreserved posts.
3.8 The upper age limit is relaxable for Ex-Servicemen upto the
extent of service rendered in defence + 3 years, provided
they have put in minimum of 6 months service after
attestation.
3.9 Sons/Daughters/Dependents of Ex-Servicemen are not
eligible to apply for the posts reserved for Ex-Servicemen.
3.10 Ex-Servicemen should clearly indicate all the required
particulars including community in the application form and
enclose all documentary proof for the same.
3.11 For Apprentice category the upper age limit with relaxation
should not exceed 40 years for Ex-serviceman candidates.
3.12 Age relaxation upto the extent of normal period of training
will be admissible for course completed act apprentice.
4. EX-SERVICEMAN CANDIDATE :
4.1 This employment notice contain vacancies reserved for
Ex-servicemen in certain category which is shown against
the category. In addition to vacancies reserved for them.
Ex-servicemen may also apply against other vacancies for
which they will be granted age relaxation and fee
exemption as indicated in Paras 3.8 & 6.2.
4.2 The term Ex-servicemen means a person, who has served
in any rank (whether as a combatant or non combatant) in
the regular Army, Navy or Air Force of the Indian Union but
does not include a person who has served in the Defence
Security corps, the General Reserved engineering force,
the Lok Sahayak Sena or the Para Military Forces and
(A) Who has retired from such service after earning his/her
pension or

(B) Who has been released from such service on medical
grounds attributable to military service or circumstances
beyond his control and awarded medical or other disability
pension or
(C) Who has been released otherwise than on his own request
as a result of reduction in such establishment or

specific period of engagement otherwise than on his own
request or by way of dismissal or discharge on account of
misconduct or inefficiency and has been given a gratuity
and includes persons of the Territorial army of the following
categories:
(I) Pension holders for continuous embodied service.
(II) Pensions with disabilities attributable to military
service and
(III) Gallantry award winners.
Explanation: The persons serving in the Armed Forces of the
Union, who on retirement from service would come under
the category of Ex-servicemen may be permitted to apply
for re-employment one year before the completion of the
specific terms of engagement and avail themselves of all
concessions available to Ex-servicemen but shall not be
permitted to leave the uniform until they complete the
specified terms of engagement in the Armed forces of the
Union.
Service personnels who are to be discharged from military
service (within one year after the closing date of this
notification i.e. upto 29.10.08) are eligible to apply against
this advertisement.
(E) Ex-servicemen who had already secured employment
under Central Government in Group 'C'/'D' will be permitted
the benefit of age relaxation as prescribed for Ex-
Servicemen for securing another employment in a higher
grade or cadre in Group 'C'/'D'under Central Government.
However, such-candidates will not be eligible for the benefit
of reservation for Ex-Servicemen in the Central Govt. jobs.
Note: Matriculate Ex-Sevicemen with 15 years of active
service in Armed Forces will be considered eligible to
apply for the post for which minimum qualification is a
University Degree. Provided the relevant certificate
issued by the military authority is attached with the
application.
5. SERVING CANDIDATES :
Applicants who are serving employee of Government or
Public Sector should send an advance copy of their
application complete in all respects within the notice period
and their applications sent through proper channel should
follow. A certificate showing all the service particulars
should be enclosed along with the advance copy
6. EXAMINATION FEES AND PAYMENT MODE:
6.1 For candidates of UR and OBC categories the examination
fees has been indicated against each post.
6.2 SC/ST/Ex-Servicemen are exempted from examination
fees.
6.3 The fees should be deposited in the form of Indian Postal
Order payable in GPO, Bhopal or Bank Draft to be payable
in any Nationalised Bank at Bhopal on the name of Asstt.
Secretary Railway Recruitment Board, Bhopal. The
validity of the Bank Draft/ IPO should be minimum six
months.
6.4 Cash/Cheque/Central Recruitment Postage Stamps will
not be accepted and such applications will be rejected.
6.5 The Postal Orders/Bank Drafts purchased prior to issue of
this employment notice or after closing date will not be
accepted and such applications will be rejected.
6.6 Examination Fees is not refundable even if the posts
notified are cancelled.
6.7 The candidates are advised to write their full name and
address behind the Bank Draft and enclose it with the
application. The details of examination fees must be given
in the application form. The Candidate should fill in Postal
Order/Bank Draft completely and keep xerox copy with
them.
7. HOW TO APPLY :
7.1 Application should be made on good quality white plain
bond paper of A-4 size and should be in conformity with the
format given in this notice. Candidates are advised to
ensure that the application is legible, written in their own
handwriting (English/Hindi) on only one side of the paper,
dated and signed. However candidates applying in Hindi
should fill up serial Nos. 1,2,3 of the personal data sheet
and No.8,9,10,11,12 of application form in English only
(Block letters) to facilitate the computerized data entry. Use
correct codes wherever indicated. Use only international
numerate (i.e.1,2,3 etc.) The candidate should sign: his/her
normal signature in the application form. (Applicants
signature in short form/capital letters/spaced out letters will
be treated as invalid.)
7.2 Candidates must ensure that spellings of their name,
father's name and other particulars filled in the application
form should be strictly in conformity with the original
certificates. In case of discrepancy they must produce
amended certificate within closing date of the Employment
Notice falling which the application can be rejected at any
stage of selection.
7.3 The candidate's address with Pin Code should be written
legibly in English in bold capital letters.
7.4 Photographs : One recent passport size photograph with
clear front view of the candidate in normal black and white
attire without cap and sunglasses (not earlier than three
month) should be pasted on the application in the space
provided and signed by the candidate in the box below the
photograph. One identical extra copy of the photograph
should be enclosed with the application indicating
candidates name and category No. on the reverse of
photograph. Candidates may note that the RRB may reject
a candidate at any stage for pasting old/unclear photograph
on the application and for any significant variation between

7.5 In col. No. 13 of the application form, marks of
identification, candidates should indicate any two visible
marks like a mole or a scar etc. Normally this should be
same marks entered in the official identification documents
such as School Leaving Certificate etc.
7.6 Candidates should write the declaration at para 10 of the
application form in their own running handwriting (not in
capitals/spaced out letters) failing which their application
will be rejected.
7.7 Proof of community should be enclosed with the
application. Xerox copy of the bonafide certificate issued
by the competent authorities only should be enclosed with
the application form and not originals. The xerox copies
should be clear and readable and signature, date,
designation and seal of the attesting authority should be
clearly visible, failing which the application will not be valid.
The certificates if not in English/Hindi should be
accompanied by attested, translated (English/Hindi)
copies.
7.8 Each candidate should send only one application complete
in all respects for one category of post OR only one
application for group of categories where single application
has been called for. Candidates submitting more than one
application for a category will be disqualified. If any such
candidate gets selected inadvertently, he/she will not be
offered appointment later on and is even liable to be
debarred from all RRB examination for a period of two
years.
7.9 An envelope should contain only one application
Envelopes with more than one application will be
summarily rejected.
7.10 Only one application should be submitted for one category/
post. Candidate who wish to apply for more than one
category (where separate application is called) should
send separate application, a separate postal order/DD for
the prescribed value as well as a separate set of
enclosures as required for each category in separate
envelopes in the concerned RRB. Candidate who wish to
apply for more than one category should note that the
examination of different categories may be conducted
simultaneously based on administration conveyance.
7.11 Complete application and personal data sheet should be
filled by candidate in his own hand writing. If it is found that
the application has been filled (even partly) by some other
person, the candidature will be cancelled.
7.12 Applicant is advised to keep with him xerox copy of
application and personal data sheet and IPO/DD which may
be needed to get duplicate call letters if he does not receive
call letter for written examination due to postal errors.
7.13 Application along with enclosures addressed to Assistant
Secretary, Railway Recruitment Board, East Railway
Colony, Bhopal - 462010 should be sent by ordinary post or
should be dropped in the box kept in RRB, Bhopal Office for
this purpose. Candidates residing in Chhattisgarh can
personally drop their application in the box kept in the office
of Divisional Railway Manager, South East Central
Rallway, Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh). on or before the closing
date and time.
8. ENCLOSURES:
Application duly filled in by the candidates themselves
should reach Railway Recruitment Board, Bhopal on or
before 17.30 hrs. of closing date along with following

8.1 Xerox copy of caste certificate as per proforma published

13. CHANGE OF ADDRESS
If there is any change in the address the candidate should in

14. DECISION OF RRB IS FINAL
The decision of Railway Recruitment Board in all matters
regarding eligibility, acceptance or rejection of applications,
issue of Free travel passes, penalty for false information,
mode of selection, conduct of examination/ re-examination,
