First of all, I would like to say Alhamdulillah, for giving me the strength and health to do
this project work until it done Not forgotten to my family for providing everything, such
as money, to buy anything that are related to this project work and their advise, which is
the most needed for this project. Internet, books, computers and all that as my source to
complete this project. They also supported me and encouraged me to complete this task
so that I will not procrastinate in doing it.

Then I would like to thank my English teacher for guiding me and my friends throughout
this project. We had some difficulties in doing this task, but she taught us patiently until
we knew what to do. She tried and tried to teach us until we understand what we
supposed to do with the project work.

Last but not least, my friends who were doing this project with me and sharing our ideas.
They were helpful that when we combined and discussed together, we had this task done.
Synopsis
Phrase by phrase

Chapter 1
Introducing Rory and his Granda while waiting for Dr Nicol in the waiting room. The
doctor is concerned about Rory and think that he’s to young to take care of his
grandfather. Rory know that only Rory and his grandfather that left in his family.

Chapter 2
Granda’s memory are not good and he easily forget. He always misplacing things. Rory
have his own responsibility like buying Granda’s lunch everyday.

Chapter 3
Rory sacrifice things that he likes for his grandfather. He wanted to be with his
grandfather that he gives up on football. Rory don’t want his grandfather to be sent to
Rachnadar because if that happen, they would be separated. Rory’s dad had left that
causing Granda to feel disappointed and don’t want to see him again.

Chapter 4
Granda is really popular amongst Rory’s friends and meets Mrs. Foley for the first time.
Accidentally, granda sets fire to his and Mrs. Foley’s coat at school’s Parent’s Night.

Chapter 5
A social worker named Val Jessup is assigned to take care of Rory and his grandfather.
Darren’s mum and Mrs. Foley are both worried for Rory and are glad of the extra help
they are going to receive. However, Granda has a little accident in the flat and is taken to
the hospital.

Chapter 6
Granda has suffered from smoke inhalation and has to be hospitalised. Rory pleads to the
Big Man to make Granda wake up. Val Jessup is nervous to let Rory live in the flat alone
and drives him to the children’s home at Castle Street.

Chapter 7
Thinking that he got no choice and it’ll be only for one night, Rory goes home- till his
Granda is out from hospital. A young inmate of the home name Tess terrifies Rory with
her bad behaviour.

Chapter 8
Granda admits that he had forgotten that the chip pan are on stove, hence sets the fire in
the flat. Trying to appease Rory, He said he would get better soon. Granda feels sad that
his grandson is in the Castle Street home.
Chapter 9
Rory loves his granddad but annoyed him too because of the accident; he had landed
himself in the hospital because of that and Rory is in children’s home. Together with Val,
Rory goes back to the flat and collect Granda’s medication. Rory realise that he wanted to
return home. Granda feels the same.

Chapter 10
Rory is given the idea that Mrs Foley might foster Rory. Rory goes to the hospital to find
that Granda is not there anymore.

Chapter 11
Granda is sent to Rachnadar. Val Jessup tells Rory that he is just a boy and couldn’t take
care of Granda anymore.

Chapter 12
Rory’s heart broke when he saw Granda cry when he is about to be sent to the home.
Rory fight with Tess at the Castle Street. Rory give up when Granda retreats further and
further into a shell while at Rachnadar and at school, the idea of being fostered by Mrs
Foley worries him. Tess becomes increasingly uncontrollable and Rory’s life went really
bad. Rory decide that the only way is to run away with Granda.

Chapter 13
Rory plans to escape and Darren offers his moms caravan. Granda relies on Rory to get
out from Rachnadar.

Chapter 14
Granda act like a little child, allowing him to lead; safe that he think Rory would save
him. He think that he is a lucky man that deserve him Rory as his grandchild and he is
happy to stay in the caravan. Rory had done everything so that they could be together. He
wouldn’t let anyone separate them.

Chapter 15
Granda is happy inside the caravan and he recovers his old self.

Chapter 16
They both met strangers while fishing and is prejudice when he called them ‘tinkers’.
Both of them happy as Granda’s health improves but Darren send Rory a text telling
them that the authorities are after them.

Chapter 17
Rory and Granda prepares another move away from the police but as the go through the
woods, the strangers they met before reach out and help them.
Chapter 18
Rory got no choice but allow the strangers to lead. They’re taken to an older caravan
camp where Rory meets Tyrone and his family. Tyrone’s mom responds that they had
helped them because it is Rory that they wanted to help.

Chapter 19
Rory and his Granda are taken care in Sammy’s camp by Tyrone’s family. They know
that they are the top story on Scottish news as a boy and his grandfather on the run. The
authorities are worried about Granda’s health. Granda would rather die of cold and
hunger as long as he is free.

Chapter 20
Granda and Rory are worried that Sammy would get into trouble by helping them but
Sammy insist that he didn’t kidnap them and Rory with his Granda are not escaped
convicts. Rory learns never to be judgemental of people.

Chapter 21
Rory and his Granda enjoy birthday party at Sammy’s brother’s place. Rory got his
feature foretold by Ruby. It tells that Rory will meet people who will help him but some
would not be able to trust. He would reach his goal but before that, he would face a
terrible sadness.

Chapter 22
Rory and Granda great escape making the public having mixed responses. Ruby told
them that people are taking side about them, arguing about whose right and whose wrong
in their case. Rory think that they should move again. Sammy give them suggestion to
drive to Dundee so that they can take train to Glasgow to be with family friends who
would provide them shelter and time need for them to think.

Chapter 23
Rory know that they have been recognized and alights at the earlier station. Rory got
bullied by a youn man he knew when Granda went to toilet. Granda beat that guy with a
bottle and decide to steal a car to escape.

Chapter 24
Granda seems to have the ability to steal a car and his driving skills scares Rory. They
stop and lay by to have some rest.

Chapter 25
They meet Rab when they stop by to buy petrol. He offers the help.

Chapter 26
Rab helps Rory and Granda because he said that Rory and his Granda are no criminal.
Rab let them stay in his flat and he seems kind and concerned. Granda says that he is
okay as long as he’s with Rory even though he’s pale and tired. TV newsflashes show
that the public is on their side and Rory know that his father had been traced to Liverpool.
Chapter 27
The television news states that neither Rory nor his grandfather have attempted to contact
Jeff McIntosh in Liverpool. Rab encourages Rory to take his grandfather to Rory’s father.

Chapter 28
Rab has an idea on how to make sure Rory and his Granda reach Liverpool. A whole line
of people are going to take them to Rory’s dad and Granda comments that the world is
indeed wonderful after having experienced so much kindness.

Chapter 29
Leaving Norma and Nicola, Annie drives them into England. The latter admires Rory for
what he had done. Granda agrees but his mood change when he know that they are about
to go to meet his son.

Chapter 30
Granda refuses to go and Rory is frustrated for the first time. He had hoped that his father
would take over the responsibility of Granda but Granda thinks that it would hurt Rory
too much if his father would leave them again. Rory started to hate his father and Granda
keep pushing him by saying that they have never needed him and that they don’t need
him now. Nicola make a phone call to Rory to tell them that the police are coming and
they had to move on.

Chapter 31
It was the second escape, both of them run into the dark. They both stop and rest as
Granda is tired. Granda says that if he was about to die, he would be happy as a man.
After awaken, Rory can’t awake his Granda and thought that his Granda may be dead.

Chapter 32
Rory runs for help and he remember about Ruby’s prophecies about the terrible sadness
Help comes immediately and the police introduce Rory to his father.

Chapter 33
Granda isn’t dead. He is hopitalised and recovers eventually. Rory is reunited with his
father and his family. Rory have two sisters who endear themselves to Granda. His father
ask for one more chance to prove that he can be a worthy father and a good son. Rory had
reach his goal and realise that id anything happen to his Granda, he will not be alone
again. He is thankful to all who’ve helped them on their journey. He is happy that he,
Granda and his family can be together again.
Through all The Story

This novel was about a boy called Rory. He and His Granda are on the run from the
police, the council and their friends. His Granda however is very rail and needs a lot of
medication. On the way they meet a lot of people who have recognised them from the
news. These people have actually helped them in their venture. Rory and his Granda
travelled by train, boat, caravan, cars and most of the time with their feet. In the end,
sadly, Rory has to end the venture, but not by being caught, he actually had to go to the
police to find help for his Granda, that trigger the event of meeting his father. He then
lived happily that he could reunite his family again.
