Quality education is our ultimate goal at I.S. 230. Students will be taking the
New York State English Language Arts assessment on May 3, and May 4, 2010. The
number of passages and the number of questions on this assessment have greatly
increased. In order to help our students prepar"fo, this challenge, we are sending
home a homework package to be completed over the holiday seeson.
Included in this package are several dffirent ways students can respond to the
boolrs they are required to read over the holiday. All students are required to read a
minimum o-f 90-120 minutes ner dsv if they are to increase their readins scores. The
must los their reading on the holiday reading loe. All students must read at least one
book on their indenendent reading level and write a reading response.four nights per
week during the holidays. In addition, students must then complete one of the writing
This package must be returned and will be collected by the ELA teacher on
January 3, 201 I . This project counts as a percentage of their homework grade for the
second marking period. Please make s;ure this is handed in on time. A reduced grade
will be givenfor homework that is handed in late.
