Youghal youngsters earn
their swim stripes at Aura
Parents who recognise the importance of teaching their children
how to swim at an early age will be pleased to know that Aura
Youghal Leisure Centre is now taking enrolments for its popular
Swim Academy.
Aura Swim Academy caters for children of all ages and abilities
and is designed to teach children how to swim or to improve their
swim skills over ten weeks.
“Aura Swim Academy has become a popular choice for parents
who want their children to learn this valuable life skill. We provide
free swim assessments for children before they enrol. That way,
children are put in classes based on their ability and not their age,
so they are learning alongside youngsters of the same standard,”
explained Tracy Kenneally, Operations Manager at Aura Youghal
Leah Ahern being presented The Dean Thornhill Scholorship at Bun Scoil Wed Leisure Centre.
23rd June 2010 “Our ‘Ducklings’ class for the under fours is the perfect introduc-
tion for first time swimmers. We start with the basics like how to
enter and exit the pool safely and how to float properly. We also
work with them on simple things like face wetting and having fun
with bubbles, it is all about easing them into the water at their own
pace,” explained Tracy. Aura’s experienced instructors are on hand
to guide each child through the course which is based on a pro-
gramme of gradual progression and motivation.
“We teach kids through a variety of activities that are built into
each half hour class. We work on their swim strokes, breathing
techniques, teach them how to tread water and at the more
advanced levels we focus on water safety and life saving tech-
niques,” added Tracy.
“Children are monitored throughout the programme and assessed
on week eight of each course. On completion of each level every
child is presented with a graduation certificate. This gives young-
sters a great sense of achievement and boosts their motivation to
progress further in the programme,” added Tracy.
Parents can choose between enrolling their children in classes

U-10 Hurling Blitz
Our U-10 panel travelled to Rathcormac on Saturday for Round 3
of the Go-Games Blitzes. We played four games, against Youghal,
Carrigtwohill, Bride Rovers and Midleton, although the zones
were removed for our game against our hosts. We competed well
in all games, with Andrew Foley playing a starring role in goals
and Padraig Leahy scoring freely at the other end. Kieran Daly
marked his return from his travels with a goal in our final game,
while all others played their heart out.
Other news
Unfortunately our planned Under 9 hurling game against
Castlelyons on Sunday morning fell victim to the foul weather
conditions - we hope to reschedule this fixture as soon as possible.
Our Under 8 hurling training re-commences this Tuesday 20th at
5.30 after a few weeks break, and will continue in this slot for the
coming weeks.
Good wishes
We would like to take this opportunity to wish our Fé 14 'A' foot-

as they take on the Midleton boys in championship next Saturday
in Midleton at 5pm. Also our Fé 12 Hurling panel contest the

style on Friday evening, 16th July 2010 with a ‘Mardi Gras’
parade setting the seaside town ablaze with colour.
Officially opening the event, this year’s Kerry Rose, Veronica Hunt
– a Youghal native wished all involved in organising the event well
for the weekend, and encouraged families with children of all ages
to come along and get involved in any of a whole host of free events
which will run over the entire weekend.
Highlights of the parade included the contestants in the ‘Queen of
the Sea’ competition as they cruised through the town in a range of
vintage cars, led out by the nationally renowned ‘Youghal Pipe
Band. Music and dance were the order of the day as visitors and
locals saw dance troops and street performers take centre stage.

Winners of the best fancy dress of the parade were Gráinne Furey, Miriam Shortland,
Tadhg O’Mahony, Suzanna Trifeletti, Éabha and Ian.
