Question 1

01.Write short explanation on the following terminology.

i. Cookies:-
Cookies were introduced to Internet browsing by the pioneering firm
Netscape.The name “cookie” was a term already in use in computer
science for describing a piece of data held by an intermediary. Internet
cookies are small pieces of information in text format that are downloaded
to your computer when you visit many Web sites.

ii. Dns spoofing:-


DNS spoofing is a term used when a DNS server accepts and uses
incorrect information from a host that has no authority giving that
information.DNS spoofing is also called DNS Domain Name System (DNS)
poisoning, also known as DNS cache poisoning or DNS attack.

iii. Password cracker:-


A password cracker is an application program that is used to identify an
unknown or forgotten password to a computer or network resources. It
can also be used to help a human cracker obtain unauthorized access to
resources.

iv. Search Engine:-


A search engine(sometimes called a Searchbot is a tool using both
hardware and software which indexes Web pages so that they can be
retrieved by entering keywords into a search form.search results are
usually presented in a list of results and are commonly called hits. The
information may consist of web pages, images, information and other
types of files.

v. Web browser:-
a software application used to locate and display Web pages. The two
most popular browsers are Microsoft Internet Explorer and Firefox. Both
of these are graphical browsers, which means that they can display
graphics as well as text. In addition, most modern browsers can present
multimedia information, including sound and video, though they require
plug-ins for some formats.

3(a) What is computer?

A computer is a device that receives, stores, and processes information

3(b) There are 4 types of computer.Explain each types of the computer?

i. Super computers: powerful but expensive; used for complex computations

(weather forecasting, engineering design and modeling)

ii. desktop computers: less powerful but affordable; used for a variety of

user applications ( email, Web browsing, document processing)

iii. laptop computers: similar functionality to desktops, but mobile

iv. palmtop computers: portable, but limited applications and screen size

Question 4

4(a) There are 2 types of computer network that usually used.Explain the types of
computer network?

i. LAN (Local Area Network):- In this networking different personal computers


within an office are liked together to communication, sharing of data and devices

like printer,scanner and so on. These computers and devices are connected with
each other by means of cables. LAN is used in small office, where area is not
big, or in a building or in group of buildings.

ii. WAN (Wide Area Network):- In this kind of networking many offices situated in
different countries are connected. This network is good for multi-national
businesses. it connect computers irrespective of their geographical location.

4(b) Sketch the illustration of both computer network above? (refer question 4a)
