Target Audience

I. Those who are in bed and are not allowed by their physical condition to sit-up
II. Those who are in casts, traction or in other medical devices that limit movements of the
body
III. Those who are in wheelchairs
IV. Those who ambulate with the aid of braces and crutches
V. Those who are in wheelchairs and those who can ambulate are grouped together in
classrooms for daily school activities while the rest receive bedside teaching
These students can also be found in the different wards of the Philippine Orthopedic
Hospital.

Goals/Objectives

The Department of Education promotes computer education and Interconnectivity in


the public schools. There are also government agencies aside from DepED that give sup-
port to people with disabilities. In the international sector, there are UNESCO polices and
IDEA (USA) that promote inclusion of the disabled persons into mainstream society.

and lay the foundation for life-long learning and service for the common good.

Strengthening Special Education Program at the Basic Education Level
The Special Education Program (SPED) is necessary to provide equitable access to basic
education by learners with exceptionalities.

! The 2002 Primer on Secondary Education Curriculum contains the Education Act of 1982.
It sets the following objectives:

1. Continue general education started in the elementary


2. Prepare the students for college
! 3. Prepare the students for the world of work

! Furthermore, one of the core learning areas and content is MAKABAYAN. It is also defined
as the laboratory of life. MAKABAYAN expects the learners to participate in activities that pro-
mote self, family, community, and nation as a result of the enriched knowledge and skills drawn
from the competencies in 1) Technology and Livelihood Education, 2) Physical Education,
Health, and Music, 3) Values Education, and 4) Social Studies. Below are the recommended
topics in Philippine Secondary Schools Learning Competencies in Technology and Livelihood
Education ICT IV. (Venegas Jr., Lamon, and Galagnara, 2008)

in vocation of his choice and give him recognition as productive, self-reliant, and
contributing members of the global society.
