Daily Scripture – Matthew 5:14-16
“14 You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15
Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it
on its stand, it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way,
let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and
praise your Father in heaven.”
him, tripping over just about everything that was in front of him. Tree limb
after tree limb was smacking him in the face. He finally exited the other
side of the woods bruised, scraped up, and bleeding. Why did he have
such a hard time? The flashlight was in his back pack.
Peer pressure sometimes has a tendency to hide the light. In order to be
OUTSTANDING for Christ we must be willing to STAND OUT!
Take a look at verse 16 in order to allow your light to shine today –
1. “16b…let your light shine before men…” – Light doesn’t make a sound
but has a definite affect on the area. It’s not always what we say that has
the most powerful affect on the area.
2. “16c…they may see your good deeds…” – Deed is defined as anything
done, an act. What act can we do today that would have a powerful affect
on those around?
3. “16d…and praise your Father in heaven.” – Your good deed should be
something that could bring the focus to God.
Prayer Assignment/Emphasis –
Spend two minutes praying for a specific teacher/administrator/school staff
member that comes to mind.
Walking it Out –
Write a short note of encouragement for that specific
teacher/administrator/school staff member that you prayed for. Possibly
have other students sign their name to it and present it to that person. (It
could open up conversations with those unsaved students that you ask to
sign their name. Be prepared for how you would answer them. Also be
prepared for the response of the teacher that the letter is given to.)
