Sue and Tom had a dog, Lucky. Lucky was a great dog,
but he had one character flaw...he was a thief. He was
constantly taking stuff...clothing, shoes, and anything else he
could get his mouth around...downstairs to his toy box in the
basement and hiding it.
Sue discovered that she had breast cancer. And she didn’t
handle the diagnosis very well, even convinced that she
would die from the illness. She even worried about leaving
Lucky, who was her dog more than Tom’s.
The double mastectomy presented more complications
for Sue than the doctors anticipated. When she came home,
she couldn’t even make it to the bedroom upstairs. She just

fell on the sofa and went to sleep.
She woke up later feeling very hot, like she was
smothering. She realized that she was covered with
something. Lucky had brought all of his favorite toys from
the basement and piled them on top of her. He covered her
with his love. Sue is still cancer-free today.

Soldiers’ Angels
Soldiers’ Angels is a volunteer-led 501(c)(3) non-profit organization providing aid and comfort to
the men and women of the United States Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and their
families. Founded by the mother of two American soldiers, we are an international, volunteer-led
organization supporting America’s men and women in uniform. With over 30 different teams and
projects, our nearly 200,000 volunteers assist veterans, wounded and deployed personnel and their
families in a variety of unique and effective ways.
“May No Soldier Go Unloved,” encapsulates the motivation behind Soldiers’ Angels. The
volunteers of Soldiers’ Angels work tirelessly to demonstrate active care and concern for veterans, the
wounded, deployed service members and their families.
To date, our volunteers have sent hundreds of thousands of care packages and letters to
deployed service members; we have supplied the wounded with our First Response Packs directly at
the Combat Support Hospitals in Iraq and Afghanistan and the major military hospital in Germany, as
well as provided care and comfort to those in stateside military and VA facilities; we have provided
emergency aid to military families in need; we have partnered with the Department of Defense to
provide voice-controlled/adaptive laptops to nearly 3,000 severely-wounded service members, as well
as other technology that supports rehabilitation; we have provided flights to soldiers on leave or in
emergency situations, and to their families wanting to be with them upon return from overseas; we
have provided Level III KEVLAR armored blankets to give personnel extra protection in their vehicles
when it was needed; we help to honor and uphold the families whose loved ones have paid the ultimate
price for our freedom and safety. With the assistance of our generous supporters , the many volunteers
of Soldiers’ Angels have accomplished this and much, much more on behalf of the grateful citizens of
the United States of America.
Soldiers’ Angels was started by a self-described ordinary mother of two American soldiers, Patti
Patton-Bader. Her eldest son, Staff Sergeant Brandon, deployed to Iraq from 2003-2004, and her
youngest was deployed in 2008. In the summer of his 2003 deployment, Brandon expressed concern
that some soldiers in his unit did not receive any mail or support from home. Being a loving and caring
mother, Patti decided not to allow a situation like that to continue. She quickly contacted a handful of
friends and extended family and asked if they would support a soldier or two. Within just a few months,
Soldiers’ Angels went from a mother sending a few extra care packages and letters, to an Internet
community with thousands of Angels worldwide. With more and more merchants donating services,
money and items for packages, Soldiers’ Angels reorganized as a 501(c)(3) non-profit in 2004.
Soldiers’ Angels currently supports tens of thousands of American military personnel stationed
wherever we raise our nation’s flag. In December 2004, an online forum was created to provide
coordination for the thousands of Angels helping to meet the needs of our heroes.

Almighty God, our Source of strength and courage, we ask
Thee to guide the leaders of nations in the ways of peace and
justice and enduring freedom for the peoples of the world.
In these times of peril and war against terrorism listen to our
prayers for the men and women serving in our armed forces,
our military leaders and our allies. Protect them all from harm
as they go into battle on land, in the sea and in the air.
Take away whatever fear from their hearts and enable them to
overcome swiftly and decisively the violence and cruelty of the
enemy.
Protect them from the hatred of others and bolster their personal
pride of being American as they rid our world of the works of
darkness and weapons of mass destruction.
Console their loved ones and family members who remain on
the home front. Gently dry the tears of those who mourn for the
wounded in battle and those who have paid the ultimate
sacrifice.
Oh God, bless them with Thy presence. Grant us homeland
security. May Thy Peace, the fruit of justice, truth and mercy,
reign in America and throughout the world. Amen.
