CHEM 101 Syllabus – Fall 2008

Prerequisites: MATH 111 (already passed or currently enrolled).

Co-Requisite: CHEM 101 Laboratory. You must be enrolled in the lab this
semester.

Lab Safety Goggles ARE Required!

You WILL need a calculator for quizzes and exams. Cell


phones will NOT be allowed. If you have a graphing
calculator, it must be approved by the instructor before use on
a quiz or exam.

Grading: 45% - Three exams


20% - Comprehensive Final
25% - Laboratory
10% - Quizzes

Grading Scale: A 90-100% C 70-77%


B+ 88-89% D+ 68-69%
B 80-87% D 60-67%
C+ 78-79% F <60%

Course Objectives:

• Reactions in aqueous solutions
• Gases
• Electronic structure of atoms
• Periodic relationships
• Chemical bonding

Policies:
Absences: It is in your best interest to attend all classes and laboratories. There are NO
makeup exams, laboratories, or quizzes.
Academic Misconduct & Dishonesty: Academic misconduct and dishonesty will NOT be
tolerated under any circumstance.
Electronic Devices: Cell phones, i-Pods, PCs, mp3 players, etc. may not be used during
class unless approved by the instructor. Use of any of these devices during class may
lead to dismissal from the class.

FINAL EXAM: The final exam will be given on Wednesday, December 3rd from
8:30-10:30am in LSF L301.

September 12, 2008 is the last day to withdraw from this course without academic
