SUBJECT: REPORT ON GMP LECTURE THAT TOOK PLACE IN THE PASTA


PLANT ON THE 03/04/09

PREAMBLE
GMP is cardinal in all manufacturing concerns hence the need for staffs
training and update on GMP issues was identified from the onset. This fact
necessitated the request by Mr. Menewe Alexander (Deputy Production
Manager) to QCD to take staffs of the department on GMP lecture and Mrs.
John-Adebayo Remi; QC Officer was delegated by the QCD to take the lecture.

ATTENDANCE
Pasta managerial, supervisors and machine operators staffs of the department
attended the lecture. Their names are as follows: Menewe Alex, Akinlade
Niran, Adeyekun Segun, Babatola Abayomi, Wali Adeyemi, Omoleye Oriade,
Tamino Pikibo, Ajayi Oluwatayo, Onyeke Emmanuel, Famoroti Dele, Awodigbe
Kayode and Fagbolagun Emmanuel.

The lecture commenced at 3:00pm and lasted till 5:00pm.


SCOPE
The scope of the lecture included:
The definition and in-depth explanation of GMP
 GMP means good manufacturing practice
 Practices in the manufacturing sector that is good and acceptable
 It involves several common sense stuffs on cleanliness and hygiene
 A quality approach to production that avoids and eliminates
contamination
A briefing on GMP origin
 GMP originated from the USA from the US food and drug administration
act
The positive and negative consequences of not implementing GMP
Positive consequences
 It helps build your market segment
 It enhances customers’ trust
Negative consequences
 It leads to bad product
 It can also leads to product re-call and financial loss to the company
 Loss of market segment
Some negative consequences are very serious while some could be managed.

The actual practice (practical implementation of GMP)


 Protecting uncovered food contact surfaces
 Personal hygiene of food handlers
 Handling of food packaging materials
 PPE (personal protective equipment)
 Role of supervision in enforcement of GMP
 The ‘microbiological reason’ for use of PPE that is restricted to the
factory environment
 Environment and cleanliness of factory
 Daily routine and other common sense issues that leads to
implementation of GMP
 The role of a cloak room in a manufacturing firm.

Question and answer session.


 Why are people not expected to go beyond the cloak room?
 White overall is normally taken out to be washed and this contradicts
GMP standards.
 Differentiation of staffs from the different manufacturing sections of the
firm.

The lecture ended with a vote of thanks from the department to the lecturer
and it really afforded the staffs to both understand and consolidated their
understanding of GMP while the question and answer session helped staffs
clarify unclear GMP issues.

RECOMMENDATION
I want to recommend continuous periodic training on such cardinal aspect of
manufacturing and such training could also be facilitated by both internal and
external facilitators.
