Puyallup Fair & Events Center Expands Use of ShoWare Ticketing Software

Event, which ranks in the top ten largest fairs in the United States, to use sol
ution as its primary ticketing system for gates, events and attractions
Fresno, CA, December 22, 2010 -- ShoWare by VisionOne, today announced that the
Puyallup Fair & Events Center is expanding its use of the ShoWare Complete Ticke
ting Software to become its primary ticketing system. With the expansion, the Fa
ir will be able to further improve its profitability by gaining more control ove
r its ticketing and creating greater efficiencies in its business.
Situated in Puyallup, 35 miles south of Seattle and 10 miles east of Tacoma, the
Puyallup Fair is the largest single attraction held annually in the state of Wa
shington, and continually ranks in the top ten largest fairs in the United State
s. Started in 1900, the Puyallup Fair is a 17-day statewide event that averages
1.1 million attendees. After a previous attempt at e-ticketing, the Fair impleme
nted ShoWare in September and was pleased with the solution’s ability to handle its
complex ticketing requirements immediately and into the future.
"We've tried other e-ticketing solutions in previous years, but we found they we
re too limited and were preventing us from rolling out our ticketing plans in a
larger way," said Amy Russell, Web Manager, Puyallup Fair & Events Center. "ShoW
are allowed for overall greater functionality and capabilities in e-ticketing an
d fits in nicely with our short term and long term objectives."
The Puyallup Fair currently uses ShoWare for online discounts and advance ticket
sales, and since the solution's pricing model is highly affordable, it doesn't
charge individual ticket fees to its patrons for ride or admission e-tickets. Cu
stomer service calls for ticketing went down significantly this year due to the
system's user-friendly order process that makes tickets more easily accessible,
with print-at-home tickets. Additionally, the Fair used the ShoWare ticketing sy
stem for rides and will be adding concert tickets to the mix, which have reserve
d seating.
"Ticketing is a big challenge for fairs because there is more than one model. In
our industry, it's easy get so ingrained in a way of doing things, especially w
hen implementing new things can be costly and time consuming," said Russell. "Th
e ShoWare system is more cost-effective, flexible and robust than anything we’ve eve
r used before, but it was also user friendly on the administrative side so there
wasn't a big learning curve. In the end, our profit margins are greater and we'
re still able to pass savings along to our customers."
As with most fairs, the Puyallup Fair is a heavy promoter, with complex ticketin
g needs due to various promotional pricing, bundling and ticket types. ShoWare a
llows the organization to be in control of its ticketing to respond immediately
to changes, such as weather-related issues, new promotions or show cancellations
, rather than relying on a third party. By extending ShoWare to manage more of i
ts ticketing, the Puyallup Fair will centralize and streamline its overall proce
ss and reporting.
The Puyallup Fair will complete the first phase of the ShoWare expansion in time
for its Spring Fair, April 14-17, 2011, and will roll out other parts of ticket
ing system wide in anticipation of its fair, September 9-25, 2011. The Fair also
hopes to extend its ticketing capabilities to the Events Center for shows throu
ghout the year. To learn more about ShoWare, please visit www.showare.com or cal
