Project Objective
The capacities of member countries of the SPC to
cope with the adverse effects of climate change and
to avoid deforestation are strengthened, with
sustainable management of land based natural
resources as a fundamental element

Environment Nature Conservation and Nuclear
Safety (BMU)
 Regional implementation partner: SPC
 Regional project: focus on forested PICs (Fiji,
Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu)
 Duration: 2010 -2014
 Budget: 4.9 Million Euro
Project goals
 Overarching goal:
‘The conservation of forest ecosystems in the Pacific island countries is
supported in order to mitigate climate change and preserve
biodiversity’
 Objective 1: Regional REDD+ policy
‘The PICs have a coherent joint regional framework for REDD+’
 Objective 2: REDD+ Information and support platform
‘The implementation of REDD+ activities in the melanesian island
states is improved through the use of a regional and supra-regional
information and support platform’
 3: REDD+ readiness
‘Central elements of REDD+ are implemented in 3 countries, leading to
the fulfilment of all requirements to participate at REDD+ in at least
one country’
