NetBackup Installation Guide UNIX and Linux Release 6.5 page# 36

Installing client type software on a master server

Client type software must be installed on the master server in order to perform the following
operations:

■ Assign clients to NetBackup policies so that those clients can be backed up Make sure that you
install the software for all of the UNIX client types you intend to back up onto the server. Otherwise,
you cannot add these client types to the NetBackup policy configuration.

■ Install (or push) client software from the master server to clients For each UNIX client type, the
client installation script lets you install the client software onto the master server. You can then “push”
the client software from the master server to the clients.

To install client type software on a master server

1 Mount the appropriate client CD or DVD.

2 Select the client type that you want to install and follow the prompts to install that client type.

3 Continue to select client types as necessary until all your client types have been installed, and then
unmount the client CD or DVD.

Note: Before you upgrade any database agents or options, ensure that the NetBackup resource is online in the cluster. Also
ensure that server processes are running on the active node.
To install or upgrade a NetBackup agent or option
1 Freeze the NetBackup group using hagrp -freeze nbu group name.
2 Run the following command on the active node to disable the NetBackup agent monitor:
touch /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/cluster/frozen
3 On each inactive node in the cluster on which NetBackup is installed, install any agents or options. See the appropriate
NetBackup documentation for the agent or option for installation and configuration instructions.
4 On the active node, perform the same installation.
5 Unfreeze the NetBackup group using hagrp -unfreeze nbu group name.
6 Run the following command on the active node to enable the NetBackup agent monitor:
rm -f /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/cluster/frozen

7 (Optional) Configure robot daemons and NetBackup options to failover NetBackup if a daemon or the option fails. By
default, robotic daemons and NetBackup options (such as NetBackup Vault) do not cause NetBackup to failover if they fail.
For more information, see “Configuring robotic daemons for monitoring (UNIX/Linux clusters)” on page 91 and
“Configuring add-ons for monitoring (UNIX/Linux clusters)” on page 91.

Note: You must freeze the NetBackup group before you install any agents or options. Refer to “Installing or upgrading
NetBackup database agents and options” on page 45.
