AIDS DESSMINATION (In the classroom)

AIDS is a disease well known today. The virus (HIV) causes

the immune system destruction.

The two most important system of transmission are:

- Sexual intercourse, both heterosexual and homosexual

- The sharing of contaminated needles and syringes

Preventive measures are very important, especially to avoid

the primary route of transmission, “sexual”.

We have the preconceived idea that a person with AIDS is

easily recognizable by his ill appearance (idea reinforced by films,
documentaries…)

The following microteaching laboratory practice looks a

simulation in the process of dissemination of the AIDS virus, among
a population and the use of contraceptive methods to avoid
spreading the disease.

AIDS DISSEMINATION (At the laboratory)

Now we are going to do a simulation in the process of dissemination

of the AIDS virus among us. It will be a fun RPG (rol play game). I
hope you enjoy it.

You are invited to a party…

What can we find in this party?

We will find drinks, food, music and some interesting people with
whom we can have sex at the end of the party.

At the party, for this simulation game you can play different rols:

• Healthy people that have forgotten condom,

• People who do not want to have sex,
• A couple of people who have a protection agaist the disease.
• A person who is seropositive.

Only one people who have condom know its role. The others can
have sex or not (more interesting if you do)

In the party might be one person who is HIV positive

So to simulate the experience you should share the containing of the

test tubes whith other people in the party, these exchanges of fluids
simulate sex among you. All the test tubes are similar colour.

To make the experience more real, when you get close to the
person to exchange the fluid in the test tube you have to talk in
English about anything to seduce him/her, to tell him/her the name,
talking about the party and so on.

We will give you 7 minutes to have up to 3 sporadic and

indiscriminate sexual exchanges.
At the end we will analyze the people who have been infected with
the HIV virus

Product of the test tube can cause irritation please be carefully

AIDS DISSEMINATION (At the Health Center )

Three months later some people who had been to the party felt sick.
They had to go to to the Health Center to visit a doctor who apply
them a HIV test.

(People must do queuing for the test)

This is Dr Klil method:

Dr Klil ads a drop of phenolphthalein into each test tube.

• Individuals who are not infected will maintain the transparency

in their “body fluids”.
• Individuals infected will experiment a red colour in their “body
fluids”
• ¿What that is mean?

These are Dr Klil conclusions:

By means of this model we can draw several principles:

1) It´s very difficult (practically impossible in their first stages)

recognize the illness in a person infected by the HIV.

2) A person can be infected during a unique intercourse and

could transmit the virus to another person

3) Having three intercourses an individual infected can infect a lot

of people.

4) Condoms (and of course, chastity) are the unique way to avoid

the mixture of body fluids, and consequently prevent the
infection.

Please, if intercourse is a possibility, don´t forget your condoms at parties
