In-house metallizing
We ensure a high quality capacitor by controlling the
metallized polypropylene film process in our own plant.
The fundamental process of polypropylene film metallizing This has resulted in the development of a unique dielec-
which is essential to the reliability of the capacitor.
tric system providing:
• High voltage withstand capability
• Excellent peak current handling capability
• High capacitance stability
• Long life even under high electrical stress
• Minimum dielectric losses (below 0.5W/kvar)
Self-healing capability
Self-healing is a characteristic unique to metallized film
capacitors. It is the capability of the capacitor insulation
system to restore its original insulation properties auto-
matically after a breakdown. The high performance
dielectric system of ABB capacitors ensure excellent self-
healing capability.
The computer controlled winding process. The windings
obtained at this stage represent the core of the capacitor and
are called capacitor elements.

Reliability
ABB capacitors comply with and exceed the requirements
of the most stringent national and international standards
including UL, CSA, IEC, NEC, ANSI and IEEE, Std. 18.
Each capacitor element undergoes very stringent national and
international testing.

COMPENSATION Solutions to harmonics
Methods of compensation Reactive power compensation also requires consider-
ation of network distortions caused by harmonics. Such
distortion may reach significant levels and be amplified
by capacitors.
