CALCA Reduce Methane emissions trough Compost Plant and Manual Landfill Project WM5

Description: The project consists of reducing the methane gas at atmosphere and controlled the leachate. The project is based on the implementa-
tion of integrated systems for solid waste management, which can be made of Segregation and Composting plant to reduce the waste that go to
landfills and clandestine dumps. It is located in Calca province, Cusco.

SECHURA Compost plant and Mechanized Landfill Project WM6

Description: The project consists of including a composting and recovery of recyclable waste, and a landfill with the aim to reduce the emissions of
methane and the amount of solid waste that go to the landfill. It is located in the province of Sechura to 54 km2 of Piura’s center.

Current Status: Projects Benefits:

Earliest project start date: November 2008.
Operation start date: 2009.
Project lifetime: 30 years.
Current Status: Profile study made by the National Environment Fund
and approved by the Sechura. Complementary studies under develop-
ment. PIN is under elaboration.
Estimated Annual Emission Reductions (tCO2/year):
An average of 2,102 tCO2-equivalent per year.

It generates 10 new employment opportunities.

It decreases of pollution at local and global level, which would not ha-
ppen in absence of the project.
It contributes to recover degraded areas by the inappropriate disposal
of solid waste.
It will allow realizing complementary investments, as ovens for toxic
waste elimination that would use the methane.
