Determine how much calories was taken.

Given: Ti = 48ºC Tf = 52ºC m = 196000 g

∆T=Tf – Ti No. of cal = m x ∆T


=52ºC – 35ºC =196000 g x 4
=4 =784000

2. A man has gained 228250 calories after he had dinner. He had the
initial temperature of 35ºC that rose up to 37.9 ºC. Calculate the mass
of the man.

Given: Ti = 35ºC Tf = 37.9ºC Cal = 228250

∆T=Tf – Ti m= No. of cal. / ∆T


=37.9ºC – 37.9ºC =228250 / 2.9
=2.9 =78706.9 g

3. A koala has a mass of 12500 g, and has an initial temperature


of 32 º C. After it ate Eucalyptus, he had taken 201000 cal.
Determine the koala’s final temperature after it ate.

Given: Ti = 32ºC Cal = 201000 m= 12500 g

∆T=No. of cal / m
=201000 / 12500 g
=16.08 32ºC = 16.08 = 48.08 ºC

4. If a man weighs 52 kg and has a temperature of 36.02ºC eats


lunch so then his temperature raised to 38.92ºC. How much calories
did he take?

Given: Ti= 36.03 ºC Tf= 38.93ºC m= 52 kg

∆T=Tf – Ti No. of cal = m x ∆T


= 38.92 ºC – 36.02 ºC =52000 g x 2.9
= 2.9 =150800

5. A goat weighs 26000 g then gained a temp. from 32.2 ºC to 35.6 ºC.
How much calories was taken?

Given: Ti = 32.3 ºC Tf= 35.6 ºC m= 26000 g

∆T=Tf – Ti No. of cal = m x ∆T


=35.6 ºC - 32.3 ºC =26000 g x 3.4
=3.4 = 88400
Entropy

1. If a 62 kg athlete dashes at an oval in a velocity of 82 m/s and has a


temp. of 36.7 ºC, what will be his’ entropy?

Given: m= 62 kg T= 36.7 ºC > 309.7 K v= 82 m/s

KE=1/2mv² = (62 kg)(82 m/s) / 2 = 208444 J

∆S= Q/T = 208444 J/309.7 K = 673.o5 J/K

2. An object has a mass of 29.3 kg and has a temp. of 163 K. Find its
entropy.

Given: m= 29.3 kg T= 163 K

Solving for Q: ∆S=Q/T


Q=mT =2775.9 J/ 163 K
=29.3 kg(163 K) = 29.3 J/K
=4775.9 J

3. If an object has an entropy of 5432 J/K and has a temp. pf 256 K,


find heat.

Given: ∆S = 5432 J/K T= 256 K

Q=∆ST
=5432 J/K (256 K)
= 1390592 J

4. Calculate the heat of an animal if it has a temp. of 365 K and an


entropy of 35 J/K.

Given: ∆S = 35 J/K T=365 K

Q=∆ST
=35 J/K (365 K)
= 12775 J

5. A bird glides at a velocity of 2 m/s and it has a mass of 2 kg. Find it’s
entropy if it has a temp. of 215 K.

Given: m= 2 kg v= 2 m/s T= 215 K

KE=1/2mv²
=(2 kg)(2 m/s )²
=4J

∆S=Q/T
= 4 J/ 215 K
= 0.02 J/K

Buoyancy

1. A 3.14 kg/l² wooden block is placed in a basin with a liquid halfway


full that has a density of 1.60 kg/l². Determine if the wooden block will
float or sink.

Given: Pobj = 3.14 kg/l² Pfl = 1.60 kg/l²

Fs=Pobj/Pfl
= 3.14 kg/l² / 1.60 kg/l²
= 1.96 v

2. A cork having a density of 2.34 kg/l² was placed in a container with


water. Solve the ratio.

Given: Pobj= 2.34 kg/l² Pfl=1.01 kg/l²

Fs=Pobj/Pfl
=2.34 kg/l² / 1.01 kg/l²
= 2.32

3. A sphere that has water has a mass of 65 g and has a radius of 2.35
m. If the density of the diluted object is 35.2 g/ml³, will it sink or float?

Given: m = 65 g r= 2.35 m Pobj=35.2 g/ml³

Sphere = 4∏r ³/3 Pfl=m/v


=(4)(3.14)(2.35) ³ =65 g/ 9.84 g/ml³
= 9.84 g/ml³ = 6.61 g/ml³

Fs=Pobj/Pfl
= 35.2 g/ml³/6.61 g/ml³
=5.33 ^

4. A 0.12 g/ml³ leaf fell on a pool of water. Solve the ratio between the
two.

Given: Pobj= 0.12 g/ml³ Pfl= 1.01 g/ml³

Fs = Pobj/ Pfl
=0.12 g/ml³ / 1.01 g/ml³
= 0.12

5. A 19 g/ml³ ball dropped on a bowl of jello that has a density of 3.14


g/ml³. Determine if it will float or sink.

Given: Pobj = 19 g/ml³ Pfl = 3.14 g/ml³

=19 g/ml³ / 3.14 g/ml³

Bernoulli’s Principle/Entrainment

1. A venturi has a measurement of 7 cm in radius then narrowed to


2.93 cm with a flowing liquid having a speed of 5 cm/s. How fast could
the liquid flow in the entrainment?

Given: r= 7 cm – 2.93 cm v= 5 cm/s

A = ∏r² A=∏r²
=(3.14)(7 cm)² =(3.14)(2.93 cm)²
=153.86 cm² =9.20 cm²

V2=A1/A2 x V1 = 153.86 cm² / 9.20 cm² x 2.93 = 48.99 cm/s

2. A pipe has an area of 128.23 cm² with a flowing liquid having a


speed of 5.32 cm/s. The pipe then narrowed at area of 27.6 cm².
Determine how fast the liquid flows in the entrainment.

Given: A1=128.23 cm² A2=27.6 cm² v=5.32 cm/s

V2=A1/A2 x V1 = 128.23 cm² / 27.6 cm² x 5.32 cm/s = 24.72 cm/s

3. A funnel has a radius of 90.4 cm² then narrowed to 45.2 cm² with
water flowing at the speed of 14.2 cm/s. How fast could the water flow
through the entrainment?

Given: r= 90.4 cm² - 45.2 cm² v= 14.2 cm/s

A = ∏r² A=∏r²
=(3.14)(90.4 cm)² =(3.14)(14.2 cm)²
=25660.58 cm² =141.93 cm²

V2=A1/A2 x V1 =25660.58 cm² / 141.93 cm² x 14.2 cm/s = 12.73
