Lakshwadeep

One of the world’s most spectacular tropical island systems, Lakshadweep is tucked away at 220-240 kms. Off the
Malabar Coast. The islands comprise of 4200 sq.km. of lagoon rich in marine wealth ad 36 islands in an area of 32
sq.km.

Each island here is fringed by snow white coral sands. The crystal clear water and the rich marine flora and fauna
enhance the mystique of these islands

Against the vast blue sea the islands look like emeralds. The huge wall like reef bordering the outer side of the
shallow lagoons blocks the incoming swells of the sea

The Lakshadeep islands are linked to the mainland by ships & passenger planes. Agatti island and Bangaram island
can be reached by Air and the others by ship from Kochi (Cochin). The temperature increases from South to North;
April and May are the hottest with temperatures averaging at 32° C

Kavaratti

A tour to Lakshadweep would cover some of the finest places of tourist interest and Kavaratti would be
the first one to begin with. It is the capital of Lakshadweep and is home to unspoilt white sandy beaches.
It has a beautiful lagoon and is an ideal retreat for water sports providing opportunities for swimming and
to cool off on the sandy beaches. It has some of the prominent Lakshadweep tourist attractions such as
marine aquarium which has a wonderful collection of marine species. The Dolphin Drive Center is an
irresistible lure for the water sports enthusiasts.

Kalapeni

Kalpeni is an important place featuring some of the finest tourist attractions in Lakshadweep. The most
striking attraction of Kalpeni atoll is a massive storm bank of coral wreckage that lies on the eastern and
south-eastern shorelines. You can take delight in lots of water adventure activities such as swimming,
reef-walk or water-sports on kayaks, sail boats & pedal boats. The scenic beauty of this place is simply
unparalleled.
Minicoy is the second largest island of Lakshadweep and
is in the shape of a crescent having one of the largest
lagoons. Tuna fishing is the most popular activity here
and you can also try your hand at this! A ride through
the scenic coconut groves and meandering village
roads would be a rewarding one. The lighthouse built
here is one of the most attractive among the tourist
attractions in Lakshadweep.

Kadhmath is another point of tourist interest that you

simply cannot afford to miss out on. This place is ideal
for spending some peaceful moments away from the
clamor and rush of the city. The most sought-after
attractions of this place are the sandy beaches and

Religion:
Religion of Lakshadweep is characterized by certain unusual festivals too that are found in the
core ethnic groups of the place. Moulood is one such religious event when the islanders
offer prayers to the divine power and eat in groups. The festival of Ratheeb is another
uncommon occasion which originated in the Kavaratti region of Lakshadweep. The grave of
Sheikh Kasim, one of the respected prophets of Islam is praised during Ratheeb by the
people of the island to gather his holy blessings.
