The principle objective of any organisation is survival & that form

completely supportive of the profitable growth of the enterprise of

which it is a part.

Peter Drucker

organisation since it is the factor responsible for reforming those

activities accomplishment of the organisation goals, the dynamic

nature of man poses challenges is an approach & a philosophy of

management which overcomes the dynamic & develops the

10
potential of the economics resulting in maximum satisfaction in

Definition

The term employee welfare is one which lends itself to various

interpretations and does not always have the same significance in all

countries. Another popular view is that, Employee Welfare, as

scientific study program is one that promotes the well being the

works.

14
The oxford dictionary defines employee welfare as Efforts to

make life worth living for work.

The encyclopaedia of social science defines Employee welfare

as the voluntary of the employee to satisfy within

the existing industrial system, working and

sometimes living and cultural condition of the

employees beyond what is required by law, the

customs of the industry and the condition of

market.

15
Aim of Employee welfare

Form humanitarian point of view employee should be provided

certain facilities & amenities of life from economic point of view.

It is very essential as it improve the living & working condition

of employee & also increase productivity.

Welfare approach of the management motivates the work force to

contribute to the corporate objective. The welfare services are

such services, facilities & amenities which may be establish in or

in the vicinity of undertaking to enables the person employed in

the term to perform their work in the healthy & congenial

surrounding &provide with amenities to conductive to good

health & high morals. Welfare work can be defined as the effort

of the employee to establish with in the existing industrial

system, working & sometime living and cultural condition of the

country & the condition of the environment.

16
The propose of providing welfare amenities is to faculties the

development of the total personality of the working class by

providing facilities physical, mental, psychological, cultural &

social, economic, moral & intellectual development. It includes

all activities & facilities including social security medical aid,

working & living condition, other facilities.

17
1.1 BACKGROUND OF STUDY

Until 1990s employer- employee relationship is that of master and

servant. In past during feudal period, the welfare of employee was at

the mercy of employers. Employee comprise of all human efforts of

body and mind, which is exchange for a consideration in terms of

cash or kind or both. Welfare is a board concept, referring to

condition of living of individual or group in a desirable and happy

state of relationship with the whole environment.

Employee welfare is one of the key and essential elements,

which should be carefully handled, form the management point of

view. There is a need to prove a high stating to the workshop

employee.

The organisation should treat the inner employee as inner customer;

it should pay the same attention what they give to the outer

customer. Megregor – Advocate management by self control,

18
partly as a form of management by objective, but more important, as

a strategy for managing people which affect the whole business.

Basically resources are three types

• Human ware

• Orgoware

• Inforware

Workers, supervisors, manager, and the employee directly in

organisation form HUMAN WARE. Materials, machine,

infrastructure and organisation tighter for ORGO WARE Info ware

cover knowledge skill technology, etc…..

Human ware becomes most important of all, because it has a dual

role to play. As employee human being indirectly influence the

effective utilization of orgo ware as being responsible for there

manipulation. Info ware again depends on human beings because

knowledge and skill are acquired assimilated, improved and applied

by human being thus even when maintaining a separate entity; all

other resources are being influenced by there single resources the

human ware.

19
Welfare means environment, economical and social welfare. In

environmental welfare includes friendly existence, ecological

pollution free existence and proper satiation. Social welfare is the

prevention of discrimination based on caste, creed, sex, and

establishment of equity and fairness ensuring safety, health and

social security. The economic welfare means increasing individual

efficiency.

Efficiency of the work force is directly and indirectly linked with

the conditions and environment under which they are required to

work. Even the most sincere employee cannot contribute his best, if

he is uncomfortable in his work place. On the contrary, his

productivity is bond to increase when he work place. On the

country, his productivity is boned to increase when he is

comfortable at the work place and he is conscious of the welfare

amenities. If he is forced to work in inadequate light condition or

polluted air- condition, his output potentiality declines. Overheating

of the environments is worse than under-heating, although both are

20
expensive in terms of decline in output, since respiratory ailments

would be caused by both the conditions. Distraction and fatigue,

which can be cause of output decline, are also characteristics of the

workforce affect productivity. Adequate floor space, lighting,

cleanness, heat and ventilation, toilet, drinking water, restroom,

meal break, medical aid facilities, holidays and weekly off,

recreation, workers educational facilities, etc. contribute to the

welfare position of the workers substantially, affecting the

productive.

Further there are 3 dimensions of concepts of welfare total, social

and relative. The total concept of welfare is the achievement of a

desirable state of existence involving physical, mental and

emotional well being. The social concept of welfare involves the

well being of an individual and the harmonious relationship. He

establishes with his primary group there family, the working group,

his colleagues, superiors and subordinates and with his social group

consisting of communication and society at large welfare is a

21
relative terms relative to time, place and person. The is called the

relative of welfare.

Employee welfare is dynamic and flexible it varies with time it also

varies form place to place industry to industry, country to country, it

also varies between individuals and groups within the establishment,

industry or country.

REVIEW OF LITERATURE

PURPOSE:

The purpose of this project is to make a prognosis about how the

implementation of employee welfare measure affect employee in

HDFC bank in R.T Nagar Bangalore. The study covers the finger

aspects and advantages of employee welfare measures and its

various implications in the modern industrial scenario.

This research work on completion is expected to be of immense help

to the organisation in strengthening the management employee

relationship and in implementing new policies and when required

with out causing major imbalances & disturbances in the

26
organisation. This is also expected to bring about overall efficiency

in a systematic way.

Welfare can be observed experienced and enjoyed but its

effectiveness may be more difficult to measure, in the world human

resources management there are remuneration system, succession

plans, appraisal technique & communication strategy , but where are

the welfare system , plans technique or strategies. Some

organization believes that so long as provide equitable pay first rate

working condition the rest is up to the individual employee.

As the first chapter tells sufficient about the importance of employee

welfare measures in an organisation in accordance to this concept if

the dissertation spreads light any research on employee welfare

Measures unutilized by the employee it is sufficient and also the

subject.

27
REFERENCE

The dissertation has been carried on an also with the help of internet

& questionnaires the process is carried.

The website of HDFC bank namely www.hdfcbank.com

provides the profile of the organisation that states the difference

production sections where employees are employed.

The project study may have some limitations both in the

presentation of data, its interpretation and the methodology used by

the researcher. Though the sample is imitated every effort has been

made to ensure that it is fairly representative of the whole

28
organisation. And to offset these limitations extensive studies have

been made. The interaction was not only with the

respondent but also a cross question of the employee.

There were also extensive discussion with various

officers at various levels and have gained through

insight into various aspect of welfare measures.

The review of literature has given me deep knowledge of the

welfare polices, programme & measures to be implemented in a

proactive organisation. The book on relations was the

yardstick to estimate the employee employer

relation in the industry.

CONCLUSION:

As the employee are the centres of the effectiveness in an

organisation in order to perform the operation effectively and

efficiently. So study about this subject is a greater pleasure and there

are various research going on presently and future to come.

• Basis design was modified the specific propose.

32
It includes various stages of dissertation completion.

Stage-1

In the beginning the researcher has acquired the knowledge through

studying various text books on human resources management and

various theoretical knowledge and collected information.

Stage-2

Framing of the questionnaire is after getting the relevant information

about the subject. The researcher in farming questionnaire has taken

For the purpose of filling of objective of the study, these are the

method of study being adopted.

Stage-4

Collecting of the questionnaire & tabulation of the questionnaire

given by the employee.

Stage-5

Applying the statistical tools:

The various statistical tools implemented are:

• Tabulation of Data

• Bar Graph

• Pie Chart

34
Statistical Tools used

Tabulation:

Tabulation of data is the simplest and most relevant devise for

summarizing data & presenting them in a meaningful faction in the

statistical table. A table is a systematic arrangement of statistical

data in columns & rows. Rows are horizontal arrangement where as

columns are vertical ones. The purpose of a table is to simplify the

presentation & to facilitate comparisons. The simplification results

form the clear cut & systematic arrangements which enable the

reader to quickly locate desired information comparison is

understand easily.

The classification & tabulations of data should not lead to believe

that these are to distinct processes in fact they go together

35
classification being the first steps in tabulation. Before the data are

put in tabular form they have to be classified i.e. the different items

have common characteristics must be brought together it only after

this step that the data are displayed under different column and rows

so that their relationship can be easily understood.

Types of table:

A simple table & complex table: in simple table only 1 characteristic

is show. Hence this type is called one way table one way table

complex table consists of 2 way table.

General purpose & special purpose or summary table it is for certain

purpose & also know as reference table.

One of the most common & appealing way in which statistical

result may be presented through diagrams & graph, evidence of this

can be found in news paper. Magazines , journals, advertisements,

etc. There is numerous ways which statistical data may be display

pictorially such as different types of diagrams, graph, and maps;

36
very often the problem is to choose best out of several methods that

may be available. This is difficulty task & required a great deal for

artistic talent & imagination on the part of the individual oragency

engaged in the preparation of diagram & graph it is not practicable

to discuss the possible form of chart here. An attempt is made in this

chapter to illustrate some of the major type of diagrams, graphs, &

may frequently used in presenting statistical data.

Bar chart:

In the Bar chart 2 or more sets of interrelated data are represent. The

technique of drawing such as diagram is the same as that of other

related charts. The only different is that explaining different variable

related to each other distinguish between the bar whenever a

comparison between to or more related variable is to be made Bar

diagram will fulfil this needs. Pie diagram are very popular to use in

practise to show percentage breakdown for example with of the

governments fund distribution.

Similarly through the pie diagram we can show how the

expenditures increased by an industry are divided under different

37
heads like raw materials, wages, salaries, marketing, sales &

distribution etc. this charts is so called because the entire graph is

like a pie.
