Symptom: Loud plastic snapping/grinding noise from paper tray. No Paper or Paper Jam
from Tray 1 or Tray 2.
Possible causes:
1) The customer may have incorrectly set the rear paper guide in the tray too tight against the
rear edge of the paper. (Photo A and B) The paper will then be stuck in the tray and cannot
rise when the metal plate is lifted by the drive gear. (Photo E) The machine’s white plastic
drive gear will either rub or slip against the paper tray’s plastic drive gear and causes a loud
snapping or grinding sound near the tray. Depending on the severity, an error message
may or may not be displayed with the snapping noise.
2) Second cause of the issue is when the customer sets the paper tray to incorrect paper size
and overfills the tray, for example, Customer setting the tray to legal size and loading letter
size paper in the tray. (Photo F). When the customer tries to print, No paper or Paper jam
tray 1 will be on the LCD display, along with a Loud Snapping noise (Noise Sample Below).
When the customer tries to remove the paper tray and since the paper is overfilled in the
tray, this will make the PE Actuator come out of position (Photo G).
NOTE- Warranty claims will not be accepted that have resulted from the customer loading
or setting the paper tray incorrectly.
