During the final year of study at the University of Huddersfield I ran for, and was elected as, one
of the five Vice Presidents of its Students’ Union. This was a demanding job, requiring me to
communicate with students from an array of backgrounds and cultures on a daily basis –
representing the 23,000+ students enrolled on courses at the institution.

I was required to write press releases and publicity, communicating with local, regional and
national media to deliver the Union’s stance on topical debates, such as higher education
funding and the tuition fees debate.

Multimedia journalist, The Times January 2010
One week’s work placement at The Times Online, pre-subscription. Sourcing and booking
locations for video archive footage production. Filming original video, including Nordic chef Trina
Hahnamenn and editing video for shared Times/Sky website, including Tony Blair at the Iraq
Inquiry.
Editor, Huddersfield Student July 2009 – July 2010
Elected editor of the Students’ Union funded newspaper. Redesigned publication and oversaw
transition from broadsheet to quarterfold format. Founded the newspaper’s website, which
served over 3,000 visitors in its first year. Managed team of editors and contributors. Employed
audio content for multimedia web experience. Established and managed publication’s social
media presence.
