Essay India’s Future


Words can be the potent precursors of change and
you have an opportunity to make your words count!
India the land of concept, argument, debate and discussion – of potential, promise
and achievement! If you think your words have the power to change the world,
then participate in the INDIA Future of Change Essay Writing Contest.

The INDIA Future of Change Essay Writing contest invites students from around
the world to put forth their views on any one or more or all of the five contest themes
suggested here. If you are a student and you think that the Future of Change begins today,
then pen your entries in the following areas:

Contest Themes
Theme 1. How can India achieve inclusive growth to prevent the gap
between rich and poor from widening?
Theme 2. Is nuclear power the answer to ending India’s energy deficit?
Theme 3. How can the private sector best serve the unmet needs
of India’s people in a sustainable way?
Theme 4. What opportunities are there for the next wave of India’s entrepreneurs
to help the country combat climate change?
Theme 5. Will the greatest future security threats to India be from inside
or outside the country?

Contest Categories
Category 1. International Segment
Open to Foreign citizens only
Category 2. National Segment
Open to Indian citizens only
Prizes
• Ten winners in each Contest Category:
(A total of twenty winners in all.)
• One Grand Prize of US$ 5000 in each of the 5 themes.
• A fifteen day all-expenses-paid vacation to select destinations in India for ALL winners.
• 4-week internship for two selected winners with Financial Times.
• Shortlisted entries to be compiled into a book of Essays to be published by
INDIA Future of Change and its partner. The book will be circulated at the
INDIA Future of Change event planned on the sidelines of the Annual Meeting
of the World Economic Forum 2011 in Davos, Switzerland 26-30, January 2011.

Rules of Participation
Eligibility
• Entry to the contest is open to all students.
• The participant must ensure he/she registers and submits for the correct category
i.e. International segment or National segment of the Essay Writing Contest.
Submission in an incorrect category will lead to disqualification.
• The participant must be an enrolled student in any school/college/institute
and be above 18 years or under 32 years of age as on 31 December 2010.
• Participation is open to individuals only.

Technical Criteria
• The essay should be in English or in a language of your choice.
• The essay should be in 3000 words or less.
• The essay should include a title and word count.
• The essay should be submitted electronically
to essayentry@indiafutureofchange.com
by 31 January 2011, 1200 hrs GMT.
• The essay should be submitted as a .doc or .docx Word format.
• The submission should contain the candidate’s
~ full name
~ e-mail id
~ nationality and
~ date of birth (date-month-year)
More detailed biographical information may later be requested from the shortlisted
candidates.
• Each participant can submit a maximum of one entry for each of the contest themes.
Each participant can thus send up to 5 entries.
• Submitted entries should be unpublished, original work of the participant.
• Submitted entries that have been awarded at other competitions
will not be considered eligible for entry and will face immediate disqualification.

Selection Criteria
The essay will be judged on the relevance and the quality of perspective presented within
the context of the contest theme.

Registration and Submission
• Registration now open
• Deadline for registration and submission is 31 January 2011, 1200 hrs GMT

Declaration of Results
• Top ten winners in each of the categories will be announced by March 15, 2011.
• The Grand Prizes will be announced in March, 2011 during the Valedictory Function
in New Delhi. Exact date of the function will be communicated to the winners
in January.
