Download and setup.

Once you have downloaded one of the WinPenPack editions from the Download section, You need to run
the setup.exe. If you want to use the collection from the Usb Pen is suggested to install the software in the
root of an empty Pen Drive (or with sufficient free space), (i.e: G:\ or H:\ and not G:\Programs...).

Note: if you install winPenPack on your Hard Disk, DON'T install it in the root of C:\ or D:\ partition, but in a
folder of your HD.

The collection can be used either from the Pen Drive or from the Hard Disk: in the first case the launcher will
make automatically the hidden file called autorun.inf for the automatic start. In case of installation on Hard
Disk, instead, the file for the autostart will not be created cause is not necessary.

Note: the file autorun.inf will be created only if winpenpack.exe will be started at least once.

Could happen that the space in the Pen Drive is not sufficient to contain the complete WinPenPack collection.
Usually the Pen Drive is formatted with the FAT file system. In this case is necessary to proceed with a new
formatting from Windows choosing the FAT32 file system: after this You can recover more free space for the
copy of all files.

Once the setup procedure is finished, the "winPenPack" folder and the winPenPack launcher will be
installed in the root of your Pen Drive.
 How it works (winPenPack launcher).
To start using WinPenPack, You need to run winpenpack.exe:

A tree menu divided in categories, folders an subfloders will appear, from wich is possible to start each
application. Programs don't need setup procedure at all and can be used immediately after the first startup.
Only personal profiles, account infos and preferred configurations are needed for Your personalized use.

A small "Winpenpack" icon will appear in Your system tray too, from there
You'll be able to have easy access in our applications menu:
 winPenPack main folder and his structure.

winPenPack suite is designed to have all needed folders well separated and distinguished:
 • Backups: folder used for backup copies of configurations needed by some programs (also winPenPack
launcher menu creates backup copies of XML file, where are written all menu links for each
application).
• Bin: folder used for all files and executables of each application. In case of new releases for one
application You need to substitute/change ONLY the program folder correlated to [ProgramName],
present in "Bin" directory (i.e. "Firefox" or "Thunderbird" folder to update these programs).
• Cache: folder used as cache area by programs that need this feature.
• Documents: folder used to store personal documents, files and data.
• Downloads: folder used by internal download manager (X-WackGet) and P2P programs (i.e. X-Mule) to
store downloaded files from the world wide web.
• Lib: folder used to store EXE or DLL files needed and shared by some different programs (i.e. GTK files
used by X-Gaim and X-Gimp or Ghostscript files used by X-Scribus).
• User: folder used to store user configurations. A lot of programs in their common usage (normal setup
procedure in a hard drive), usually save their configurations in %USERPROFILE% directory. This is a
hidden folder usually pointing to "C:\Document and Settings\[User Name]". Otherwise a lot of our
programs ready to run from the suite are saving their configurations in "winPenPack\User\[Program
Name]" folder. In fact, using our X-Launcher, (a universal launcher that make these applications
portable), it's possible to change the reference root of %USERPROFILE% directory.
• XDrive: folder used to store all our X-Launchers, that make portable some programs stored in our
collection. For more infos about X-Launcher, please see this section or download the X-
Launcher .Zip package from the download section.

XDrive folder and X-Launcher:

As already said, in XDrive folder are stored all Launchers made for our "X-Programs" and the "X-Launcher.cfg"
file. These launchers are necessary to make some applications portable. In this case the X-Launcher.cfg file is
setting the right "filesystem" of the whole launchers pack. For more details please see the X-Launcher guide
or download the X-Launcher .Zip package from the download section.
 How to update, add and/or remove programs from winPenPack.

You can personalize very easily our collection with a proper customization, always in agreement with our End
user license for use and distribution:

• You have to delete or add your preferred portable programs in "winPenPack\Bin" folder.
• You have to create new links to added programs into winPenPack launcher, either with drag&drop or
manually. Please note: only for "X-Programs" (X-OpenOffice, X-Firefox, X-Abakt, ecc...) you must
create new links to their X-Launchers using XDrive folder as starting point. For other programs you can
simply create a link pointing to original EXE file, starting from winPenPack\Bin folder\[Program Name].
