History Of Federal Urdu University Of Arts Science and Technology

FUAST has, over the years emerged as an impressive center of highest learning with
extremely learned faculty. FUAST enjoys the unique distinction of being the first ever
university in Pakistan, which ultimately aims at using Urdu as the main language of
instruction and teaching. The university was established on 13 November 2002 under
ordinance number CXIX, 2002 promulgated by the president of Pakistan, as per provision
of this ordinance the university has its principal seat at Islamabad. The start functioning
in November 2002 by taking over to federal government colleges, namely Federal Urdu
Science College and Federal Urdu Arts College in Karachi was established 1949 by baba-
e-Urdu Dr Abdul haq whose mission was only promote Urdu is teaching and also as
national language. The university full fledged facilities including those of basic and
applied sciences along with engineering, business management, economics and
humanities.

Mission

• The FUAST is committed to the transfer and dissemination of contemporary


knowledge to a vast segment of society through the national language in all fields
of arts, sciences, engineering and emerging technologies.

• The university is devoted to prepare with skills competency and capabilities


necessary for meeting the challenges of the twenty-first century in assume the
leadership role in their respective profession.

• The university aims to foster higher human values of humanity, truthfulness and
equality by inculcating love of the country, democracy and social responsibility in
its graduates.

achievement of national development goals.

knowledge based economy by acquiring professional and technological
advancement.

• Promote interpersonal communication and analytical skills combined with

FACULTY

As a reputed instruction of higher education in the country, FUUAST seeks excellence in


all its programs and activities. High quality dedicated faculty is the cardinal aspect of
FUUAST programs availability of highly qualified faculty ensures to make the university
innovative and responsive to the latest trends. All the departments especially the
department of electrical engineering, have been strengthen with foreign qualified
professors. The faulty being the hurt and soul of the university dedicated to its profession.
The faculty has educational background and experienced from across the global. Thus the
result is a vigorours mix of people, ideas and programs dedicated to enhancing the quest
of knowledge. Highly supporting faculty also engaged to teach courses in the subject of
English, Islamic studies, pak studies, mathematics and statistics.

THE STUDENTS

The liberary of FUUAST has been providing excellent service and facilities to fulfill the
information needs of its clients.liberary is equipped with collection of 17 thousands
books.qualified and experienced staff, provided high quality innovative services. The
culture of trust tolerance, sharing and self servicing makes it a unique library of
Islamabad. The aims to encourage and support the academic and research objectives of
FUUAST faculty, staff and students. It provides full range of services that include loans,
reference services and digital resources.

RESOURCES OF LIBRARY COLLECTION

General Collection

The main collection of comprising high quality text in support books on the subjects
being taught in the university. This collection is organized to Dewey’s Decimal
Classification Scheme and subject wise according to call numbers (100-999) pasted on
the spine of each item.

Reference Collection

A significant number of current references sources are available on reference shelves.


This includes Government of Pakistan data, encyclopedias, directories, yearbooks;
bibliographies are the distinct features of this collection. The reference books can only be
consulted within the library.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY FACILITIES

FUUAST offers most modern computing facilities to its students and faculty. High-speed
internet facility has been provided to the users through HEC, Pakistan educational and
research network (PERN – 2) program. Computing laboratories are equipped with latest
computers, software’s and allied equipment, which are also connected through
LANs.high speed internet connectivity and HEC digital library access is available on all
computers connected on FUUAST network. All the faculty members have been provided
computing device and high speed internet access. Downloading facilities have been
provided in computer labs on dedicated computers.

VIDEO LECTURES/CONFERENCE FACILITIES

Video conferencing facility through HEC PERN- 2 network is available to promote


distance learning in flow of information to facilitate teaching and R&D activities.

COMPUTER LABS

Modern computer labs have been established in all departments of FUUAST.

MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM (MIS)

University management system improving using the power of computer because it


enhance the efficiency and makes available the information for the right decision when
required. With this aim, an MIS cell has been created in the FUUAST.MIS cell has been
developed software which is used for automation of academic and management functions
of FUUAST. MIS’s software covers aspects related to admission, registeration, datesheet
management, course coverage, and attendance. The head of the department can view the
course coverage, faculty functionalities, student attandence and seesion records along
with the examination results. It is important for the students and parents can monitor the
progress of the student and scores. The examination cell can check the latest scores and
publishe the result notification with ease and accuracy. MIS cell has developed different
software model such as student models and faculty models. It is very useful for students
to maintain attandence and check work progress regularly.this software has enhanced the
overall efficiency of the syatem along with making at more transparent.

DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

Business administration department was established in 1923 & is one of the largest
department of university having 1100 students. The objective of department is to equip
student with knowledge, skill, attitude, & behavior necessary to understand & influence
factor are vital in business & multinational community.
Different programs of BBA, MBA & MS are being run by department. Department is
presently equipped with one lab having latest computer technology & all other necessary
equipment i.e. Multimedia & projector to provide audio & visual aids which facilitate
teacher’s lecture.
The present faculty includes 20 members having qualification of PHD, MS assistant
professor & lectures out of which seven are pursuing their doctoral degree on scholarship
in leading international institution. Faculty expertise in Management, Marketing, Human
Resource Management Research & Finance enriches business education of student across
all programs.

DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE

Department of computer science was started in fall 2003 with the commencement of
FUUAST.Currently there are 12 faculty members (1 Associate professor, 3 Assistant
professor & 8 Lectures) & about 500 students. There are 3 state of the art computer labs
with latest PCs audio/video & video conferencing hall. The computers labs are managed
by qualified lab technicians & lab staff to supervise & help the student for their practical
& research projects. The faculty members are also available in labs to supervise students.

Department of computer science is also running CISCO local academy. The CCNA
programs are being offered for the student of FUUAST as well as the professionals &
student outside FUUAST. The CISCO lab is equipped with latest switches & routers.

Department of computer science has faculty members having experience of


undergraduate & postgraduate technical & research projects respectively. The department
has a research group composed of senior faculty members having vast research
experience in the following areas:

• Autonomicity in databases

• Mathematical Modeling & Simulation

• Intrusion detection system

• Wireless Networks

• E commerce

• Signal processing & communication

The faculty members of the department are the author of many published books in the
latest areas of computer science.

DEPARTMENT OF APPLIED PHYSICS

Department of applied physics offer program in fundamental areas of application


(Mechanics, eletrodynamics, optics & electronics etc) with the perspectives of a
physicist. The department has a well qualified faculty including 4 assistant professor & 7
lectures 2 of the faculty member are PH.D & the remaining are M. phil. Because of the
board range of techniques & intellectual point of view that are relavent to contemporary
applied physics, the course work & research projects if department are designed to bring
the student into contact with activities in several disciplines related to physics such as
signal processing, material science. The program of graduate training is designed to
prepare graduates for professional careers in science & technology, in both academic &
industrial environment. This department has its laboratories that are well equipped with
basic experiment that mechanics, electronics & electromagnetism according to the
requirement for studies at BS & M.Sc levels. The research projects of M.Sc & BS student
are carried out in collaboration with different research organizations.

DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC

The department of economic was formally launched in spring 2004 with 1 full time
associate professor & non-PH.D part time teachers. Since then it has grown to 1 with 2
full professors 1assistant professor & 4 full time research associates.
In addition, we have the cooperation of 4 adjunct professors. All the professors are
approved HEC supervisors. Similarly we have strong M.Sc programe, which is taught by
1st class M.phil teachers. To keep up the quality of instruction only teacher with PH.D
teach the M.phil/ PH.D students.

Total number of M.phil/PH.D has increased from 18 in 2009 to 66 now. Similarly in the
M.Sc program started in spring 2005, the number has increased from 6 in 2005 to 94 at
present.

The current faculty will gradually be upgraded to PH.D teacher so that both the M.Sc &
M.phil/ PH.D student taught by PH.D teachers.

DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

The department of electrical engineering was established in September 2004&


compromises of 28 faculty members & 413 students. The department is running a PEC
recognized program in electronics engineering .laboratories facilities exist in the
following areas.

• Basic Electrical engineering

• Power Electronics

• Telecommunication

• Digital Systems

• Computer simulation
• Control Systems

The present faculty includes 3 PH.D (2 professor & 1 assistant professor) all graduate
from leading institutions abroad. Additionally faculty members include 8 M.S from
leading institutions in Pakistan.

The faculty has expertise in R&D & academic sector. H.E.C has provided funding for up
gradation of academic infrastructure & research laboratories have been established. The
areas of specialization of faculty is diversified & is in the following areas,

• Optical Communication

• Wireless Communication

• Digital Signal Processing

• Image Processing

• Control Engineering

Recently the following research group been fromed:

• Wireless Network Technologies

• Image Processing & Computer vision

These groups are headed by senior faculty & will provide a good platform foe academic
research by strengthening liaison with local industry & foreign academic institutions. A
number of collaborative research programs are being designed to bring academicians at
different universities together to promote a research environment.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA / DURATION FOR DIFFERENT


PROGRAMS
BBA (Honors)

Intermediate certificate (F.A/ F. Sc/ I.com/ ICS) with minimum 50% marks from
recognized Board course duration is 4 years in 8 semesters, 144 credit hours.

MBA

A bachelor degree (B.A/ B. Sc/ B.com/ BCS) with at least 50% marks from recognized
university. The completion of relevant postgraduate diploma from recognized tertiary
education institution, course duration 3.5 years in 7 semesters, 130 credit hours.

BS (Computer Science)

(Majors in software system/ communication & network/ Telecommunication)

F. Sc (pre-engineering or with mathematics) at least 50% marks or D.A.E with at least


60% marks course duration 4 years in 8 semester, 134 credit hours.

M. Sc (computer Science)

B. Sc Mathematics with at least 50% course duration 1.5 years in 3 semesters, 65 credit
hours.

B.S (Applied Physics)

F. Sc or equivalent (with physics & mathematics), at least 50% marks or D.A.E with at
least 60% marks course duration 4 years in 8 semesters, 140 credit hours.

M. Sc (Applied Physics)

B. Sc or equivalent (with physics & mathematics), at least 50% marks course duration 1.5
years in 3 semesters, 44 credit hours.

M. Sc (Economic)
Bachelor degree with economic / B.com / BBA with at least 2nd division, course duration
1.5 years in 3 semesters.

M.phil leading to P.HD (Economics)

1st division or 3.00 CGPA on the scale of 4.00 NTS / GRE Economic.

HEC scholarship holders are encouraged to apply for admission.

B. Sc (Electronics Engineering)

F. Sc (pre-Engg. with math) at least 60% marks, or associate Engineer (Electrical /


Electronics) diploma with at least 70% marks, the course duration 4 years with 8
semesters, 136 credit hours ; selection criteria is :-

• Metric 10%

• HSCC 50%

• NTS 40%

M.S (Electrical Engineering)

B. Sc Electrical / Electronics / Telecom / computer / power Engineering in a PEC


recognized program with a minimum 2.5 GPA, course duration 1.5 years in 3 semesters,
27 credit hours, selection criteria is NTS test.
