Ahadith that seem to support death punishment for blasphemy

thereal[Abu Dawud - Book #38, Hadith #4346]

Narrated Sa'd ibn AbuWaqqas: On the day of the conquest of Mecca, Abdullah ibn Sa'd ibn AbuSarh
hid himself with Uthman ibn Affan. He brought him and made him stand before the Prophet
(peace_be_upon_him), and said: Accept the allegiance of Abdullah, Apostle of Allah! He raised his
head and looked at him three times, refusing him each time, but accepted his allegiance after the third
time. Then turning to his companions, he said: Was not there a wise man among you who would stand
up to him when he saw that I had withheld my hand from accepting his allegiance, and kill him? They
said: We did not know what you had in your heart, Apostle of Allah! Why did you not give us a signal
with your eye? He said: It is not advisable for a Prophet to play deceptive tricks with the eyes

The above hadith is Da‟eef (weak) as it contains two Shia narrators i.e. Ahmed Bin Mufzal and Suddi. It
is a rule amongst the muhadditheen that any riwayat (report) from Shia narrators that is against a
Sahabi (RA) is not acceptable. Please see detail on this riwayat on Page 85-87 of Haqiqat-e-Khilafat-o-
Malookiyat by Mehmood Ahmed Abbasi

[Abu Dawud – Book 38 #4361 and #4348]

Narrated from Ibn „Abbaas that a blind man had a freed concubine (umm walad) who used to insult the
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and say bad things about him. He told her not to
do that but she did not stop, and he rebuked her but she did not heed him. One night, when she started
to say bad things about the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and insult him, he
took a short sword or dagger, put it on her belly and pressed it and killed her. The following morning
that was mentioned to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). He called
the people together and said, “I adjure by Allah the man who has done this action and I adjure him by
my right over him that he should stand up.” The blind man stood up and said, “O Messenger of Allaah, I
am the one who did it; she used to insult you and say bad things about you. I forbade her, but she did
not stop, and I rebuked her, but she did not give up her habit. I have two sons like pearls from her, and
she was kind to me. Last night she began to insult you and say bad things about you. So I took a
dagger, put it on her belly and pressed it till I killed her.” Thereupon the Prophet (peace and blessings
of Allaah be upon him) said: “Bear witness, there is no blood money due for her.”

One of the narrators of this hadith, Usman al Shaham is not acceptable personality as confirmed by
Zahbi in his Meezan ul Aitidaal. See below:

i.e. He is not strong (saqqa) and there is no harm in it (which is said for a 4th rated narrator whose
hadith alone is not hujjat). Imam Muslim has only brought one hadith from this narrator in his Sahih and
that too as a corroborating report (Sahadat) for another narrator.

Narrator for Muslim and Bukhari. But there is considerable jirah (criticism) on him (Meezan vol 3, page
93).
