Topic: RENTING A HOUSE
Lesson Aims:
- to encourage pupils to use their imagination, creativity and knowledge about
this topic;
- to make pupils recognize and use the acquired vocabulary items – grammar
structures ;
- to have pupils practice speaking, reading, listening and writing skills and
focus on the lesson topic.

Language functions:
- expressing personal opinions;
- making suggestions;
- giving explains;
- renting a house.

Assumed knowledge:
- pupils know to use items of vocabulary;
- pupils use their knowledge, suggestion and creativity;
- pupils master the tense very well.

Materials / aids: blackboard, chalk, the textbook, teacher’s book, cassette.

Skills: speaking, reading, writing, listening.

Methods: conversation, explanation, dialogue, exercises, problematic situation.

ACTIVITY 1 (Warming – up)

Aims: - to link the topic of the lesson to pupils personal knowledge and experience;
- to stir interest.

PROCEDURE
1). Checking homework: “What did you have for homework last time?”
2). Jigsaw activity: Teacher tells students to read the dialogues which they had to do
for homework.
Interaction: T – Ss
Timing: 5 min.
ACTIVITY 2(lead – in)
Aims:
o to motivate pupils to think of the topic;
o to encourage pupils to use their imagination, creativity and knowledge
about the topic.
o To personalise and get interested in the topic.

PROCEDURE 1
Starting from a guided discussion, teacher elicits from pupils to open the books at
page 13 and read the items (to 1 from 7) on the exercise 30.a. After that Ss underline
the key words in the statements.

PROCEDURE 2

T explains that the gaps must be completed with the exact words from the tape
script. The cassette plays twice. After that Ss do the exercise. T check Ss’ answers
by playing the cassette again with pauses.

ACTIVITY 3
Aims:
o to check comprehension;
o to develop practical skills;
o to personalise and get interested in the topic.

PROCEDURE
T asks Ss to open the book at page 14 at exercise 34.a T explains the task and allows
Ss 2 minute to do the exercise. Choose pairs of Ss to report to the class.
Suggested answer key:
A “smart” house would probably have all kinds of devices to make one’s life easier.
A lot of the appliances in the house could be automatic. Perhaps it has an automatic
security system. A ‘smart house’ might be able to clean and cook, etc.

Timing: 10 min.
ACTIVITY 4
Aim: -to brainstorm the pupils’ knowledge on the topic and train them in using it
creatively.

PROCEDURE
Exercise 34.b Teacher explains the task. The cassette plays twice if necessary. Ss
listen to see if their guesses were correct. T asks Ss to read sentences aloud. The
cassette plays again. Ss listen and complete the task. T checks Ss’answers. T asks Ss
to correct the false statements. (1T, 2F, 3T, 4T, 5F).
2 – It is located in Hunemberg.
5 – The house is safe.

Timing: 10 min.

ACTIVITY 5 (homework and awards)


Aim: -to brainstorm the pupils’ knowledge on the topic and train them in using it
creatively.
PROCEDURE 1
Teacher asks pupils to read for homework the newspaper article aloud and to write
exercise 35.b.

PROCEDURE 2
Teacher gives awards to the most competitive pupils.
