IMPORTANCE OF GAINING KNOWLEDGE IN ISLAM
The Prophet sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam made seeking knowledge an obligation up
on every Muslim, and he sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam explained that the superior
ity of the one who has knowledge over the one who merely worships is like the su
periority of the moon over every other heavenly body. He sallallaahu alayhi wa s
allam, said that the scholars are the heirs of the Prophets and that the Prophet
s, may Allaah exalt their mention did not leave behind any money, rather their i
nheritance was knowledge, so whoever acquires it has gained a great share. Furth
ermore, the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam said that seeking knowledge is
a way leading to Paradise. He, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam said: "Whoever foll
ows a path in the pursuit of knowledge, Allah will make the path to Paradise eas
y for him" (Sahih Bukhari).
A person is superior in terms of his knowledge.
VIRTUE OF SURAH IKHLAS
Muslim recorded in his Sahih, and An-Nasa'i in his Sunan that Ibn `Abbas said,
"While Jibril (Gabriel) was with the Messenger of Allah , he heard a noise from
above. Jibril lifted his sight to the sky and said, `This is a door in heaven be
ing open, and it has never been opened before now.' An angel descended from that
door and came to the Prophet and said, `Receive the glad tidings of two lights
that you have been given, which no other Prophet before you was given: the Openi
ng of the Book and the last (three) Ayat of Surat Al-Baqarah. You will not read
a letter of them, but will gain its benefit.''' This is the wording collected by
An-Nasa'i (Al-Kubra 5:12) and Muslim recorded similar wording (1:554).
Muslim recorded that Abu Hurayrah said that the Prophet said,
(Whoever performs any prayer in which he did not read Umm Al-Qur'an, then his pr
ayer is incomplete.) He said it thrice. As a result every Muslim, repeats this S
urah many times in a day during Salah.
{Islamic tradition divides the hadith into two types:
1. hadith nabawi , which are sayings that Muhammad made on his own (words of pr
ophet Mohd pbuh, said by him)
2. hadith qudsi , which are sayings that Muhammad made through divine inspirati
on. Only a very few of the hadith are divine sayings; the overwhelming majority
are hadith nabawi . (words of God, said by prophet Mohd (pbuh))}
Abu Hurayrah said that he heard the Messenger of Allah say (Allah, the Exalted,
said, `I have divided the prayer (Al-Fatihah) into two halves between Myself and
My servant, and My servant shall have what he asks for.' ( so this is a hadith
Qudsi).
If he says,
?????? ??????? ???????????? ??????????
(1. In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.)
?????????? ?????? ????? ??????????????
(2. All praise and thanks be to Allah, the Lord of existence.)
Allah says, `My servant has praised Me.' When the servant says,
????????????? ?????????? ?
(3. The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.)
Allah says, `My servant has glorified Me.' When he says,
???????? ?????? ???????? ?
(4. The Owner of the Day of Recompense.) Allah says, `My servant has glorified M
e,' or `My servant has related all matters to Me.' When he says,
????????? ???????? ?????????? ??????????? ?
(5. You (alone) we worship, and You (alone) we ask for help.) Allah says, `This
is between Me and My servant, and My servant shall acquire what he sought.' When
he says,
????????? ?????????? ?????????????? - ??????? ????????? ?????????? ?????????? ??
???? ???????????? ?????????? ????? ???????????? ?
(6. Guide us to the straight path.) (7. The way of those on whom You have grante
d Your grace, not (the way) of those who earned Your anger, nor of those who wen
t astray), Allah says, `This is for My servant, and My servant shall acquire wha
t he asked for.').''

These are the words of An-Nasa'i, while both Muslim and An-Nasa'i collected the
following wording, "A half of it is for Me and a half for My servant, and My ser
vant shall acquire what he asked for.''

THREE TYPES OF TAWHEED

1.Tawheed-ar-Ruboobiyya (Oneness of the Lordship of Allah).
To believe that there is only one Lord for all the universe, its Creator, Organi
zer, Planner, Sustainer, Maintainer, etc., and that is Allah swt.
2. Tawheed-al-Uloohiyya (Oneness of the worship of Allah).
To believe that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah. Worship comes in
the form of praying, invoking, asking for help from the unseen or anything belie
ved to be a deity (i.e. idols), swearing, slaughtering sacrifices, etc.
"And the mosques are for Allâh (Alone), so invoke not anyone along with Allâh." [Sur
ah Al-Jinn 72:18].
"Say (O Muhammad SAW): "I am only a man like you. It has been inspired to me tha
t your Ilâh (God) is One Ilâh (God i.e. Allâh). So whoever hopes for the Meeting with
his Lord, let him work righteousness and associate none as a partner in the wors
hip of his Lord." [Surah Al-Kahf 18:110]
3. Tawheed-al-Asma was-Sifat (Oneness of the Names/Attributes of Allah)
To believe that all the best of names/attributes (i.e. "The Most Merciful", etc.
) belong to Allah as described in the Qur'an and by Prophet Muhammad(Sallaallaah
alayhi wa Salam), and must not be twisted or expanded upon nor given similtude
to human characteristics.
"Say (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)): 'He is Allâh, (the) One. Allâh-us-Samad (The
Self-Sufficient Master, Whom all creatures need, He neither eats nor drinks). He
begets not, nor was He begotten; And there is none co-equal or comparable unto
Him.' " [Surah Al-Ikhlas 112].
"...There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer." [Su
rah Ash-Shura 42:11]

Dawat-us-Salafiyyah maintains that these three principles of Tawheed are insepar

able from one another because they are the pillars of the meaning of the testimo
ny: "Laa ilaaha il Allah" (There is nothing which has the right to be worshipped
except Allah). Dawat-us-salafiyyah encourages the Muslim to apply Tawheed to hi
s or her daily way of thinking and acting

SURAT AL NISA (AYAT 69) mentions the people who are on the right path
(69. And whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger, then they will be in the company
of those on whom Allah has bestowed His grace, of the Prophets, the Siddiqin, t
he martyrs, and the righteous. And how excellent these companions are!)
Five main things that can extracted from this surah are
1. Blessings of Allah ( Ayah 1,2,3)
2. Believing in the Day of Judgement ( 4)
3. Tawheed (5)
4. Steps to be taken to be on the right path (6,7)
5. Stories and lessons to be learnt from the people (qawm) in the past
