When The Victory Is On Its Way

2 Chronicles 20:1-2
It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with
them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle. (2) Then there came
some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the
sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Haza-zon-tamar, which is En-gedi.
1) Introduction
a) The Moabites & Ammonites had Come to do Battle on the Children of Israel, But
They are God’s People, Just as we are. The Bible tells us so in:
1 Peter 2:9
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye
should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous
light:

b) They May have been scared, but they knew who was their help, and so they went to
God, to seek His help.

2 Chronicles 20:3
And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all
Judah.

c) They went to God, and they Prayed, Prayer is an essentiality to the victory, We see
that here:

2 Chronicles 20:6-9
And said, O LORD God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all
the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is
able to withstand thee? (7) Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this
land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend forever? (8) And
they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying, (9) If, when
evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this
house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our
affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.

d) There are some thing that they prayed that I would like to point out:
i) VS. 6: art not thou God in heaven… thine hand is there not power
and might, so that none is able to withstand thee? They knew that God Was well
able to bring them through this, They knew that God is all Powerful, they had the
faith.

ii) VS. 7: All of Verse:: He was the God that took them out of Egypt,
and Gave this land to them, He was the one that promised it to their Great
Grand Fathers,
iii) VS. 8: They Built the House of God, and they knew the significance
of the House of God. So That
iv) VS.9; we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name
is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.
When you come to the house of God, You can cry out, and he will hear your
afflicition, and he will be able to help, you. That is why it was it is called a Sanctuary:
(1) Webster’s 1828 Dictionary States: A Sanctuary is
(a) A place of protection; a sacred asylum. Hence a sanctuary-
man is one that resorts to a sanctuary for protection.

e) After They Prayed, The answer came in verse 15

2 Chronicles 20:15
And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat,
Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great
multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God
f) See God, Answered their Prayers Just like he, answers our, I know that there of late
has been some major battles, with various issues, and I am here to say that the Victory is
on its way, Recently. I’ve gone through several battles, and I know how it feels, when the
battle is raging and all you see it the battle, and the night is long, and you don’t feel that
you can go on, anymore. But The Battle is not yours its God’s
g) The Bible Says in Ephesians, 6… Having Done All to Stand,… Stand Therefore,
You’ve done all you can, now let God do the rest cause He’ll never lose a battle.
h) Then God, said Go and watch what I can Do.

2 Chronicles 20:16-17
Tomorrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find
them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel. (17) Ye shall not need to fight in
this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah
and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them: for the LORD will be
with you.
i) God was like Go, have a picnic, and watch,

2 Chronicles 20:21
And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that
should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the
LORD; for his mercy endureth forever.
j) I Just want to point this out, that the praise, went where… Before the Army. Does
anyone remember who was the afflicted in this story:

2 Chronicles 20:3
And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all
Judah.
k) Judah Means What…
i) The International Standard Bible Encyclopedia: States Judah means:
(1) PRAISE
l) So They went to watch and to praise, and besides prayer… PRAISE is an essential
part or winning the Victory. Because watch what happens in verse 22:

2 Chronicles 20:22-23
And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of
Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.(23) For
the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay
and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to
destroy another.

m) Albert Barnes Notes on The Bible, states:

i) These liers(or the Ambushments) in wait have been regarded as
angels employed by God to confuse the host and cause its destruction, so that
the Moabites and Ammonites first united to destroy the Edomites, and then
turned upon each other.
2) Closing
3) So When Judah, Praised, then God turned the enemy against each other,
and Judah as approached in vs 24 this Is what happened.

2 Chronicles 20:24
And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude,
and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.
a) When they all finally all got there, the Lord had wiped them all out. That none
escaped, you see that when God fights the battle, None will escape, and they went in to
the victory still rejoicing,

2 Chronicles 20:25
And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among
them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped
off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of
the spoil, it was so much.
b) I Close with this, When the enemy Comes in like a flood, there is two things that you
must do, to obtain the victory. That is to PRAY. And then to PRAISE, for the victory is on
its way. And when that Victory Comes, you’ll have more than you can carry away.
c) So Church we’ve prayed, and now its time to praise God for that victory that is on
its way.
