Editor’s Desk
I take this opportunity to, not only extend New Year-2010 greetings to one and all, but
also to congratulate the students who have been successful in their Campus Recruitment
selections of Infosys and Accenture.
It has been our consistent endeavor to provide the best of computing facilities and
learning environment to our students. In this quest, the department has established the
QualNet Network Simulation Lab, setup the Data Mining lab and upgraded its computing
facilities and has been encouraging its faculty to upgrade their skill set. For our efforts
to fructify, it is mandatory that the students utilize the available resources to their
maximum potential and acquire the necessary theoretical and practical skills.
I reiterate my concern and call upon the students to take their academics seriously and
improve their skill set both technically and otherwise and become employable. Also par-
ticipate in the various activities being conducted by the department and college from
time to time.
Before I put the pen down, I wish one and all a prosperous year ahead.

OMG!!! I GOT INTO INFY!

CAUTION: This article has been written to bring in a flavor of humor and is not to be taken seriously.
This adventure began when I got the mail from placement officer, Mr. Arun Chandra, saying that
Infosys is going to come and recruit students from our college. God knows why they come every year to
give jobs to maniacs like us. Many of my friends started acting weird from this day itself. "The list of things
to do" was being made by everybody. Everyone had there own priorities. My biggest problem was to buy a
decent shirt . So one day I went shopping with my friend. Now while shopping , another interesting prob-
lem arose, whether to buy one or more, i.e.( what if we didn‟t get selected ?(the probability of it was very
high actually ), we would need another one for the next company ). But I decided to be optimistic n bought
only one.
Now the next biggest problem, the "resume". Everyone had their own difficulties while preparing it.
But mine was the weirdest of them all. It was not what to write in it and all, but how to write it!!!I cursed
Bill Gates for developing such a complex thing called Microsoft Word. I tried for days together to write it,
but with no luck. One day before the placement I gave up trying n headed to my friends place, he wrote my
resume , and I rushed to take the printout. It was 10 pm when the printout came in my hand and then when
reading it, I realized that my friend had made a mistake. I swore like hell and rushed back to his place. By
the time the correct resume was in my hand it was 12pm. Phew!!!
Finally the D-day came, I was all dressed up. When I reached college I realized that everybody, in-
cluding me were looking like clowns with the ties. Firstly we had this aptitude test. I thought I did really
well in it. The results of the test were to be announced after lunch. And that was the longest lunch of my
life. Then Arun Chandra sir came and started announcing the list of short-listed candidates. Many names
were announced, even my friend who had copied from me was selected. After his name was announced I
got really scared, and started thinking that I must have put my answers on the wrong side of the answer
sheet. With a moron like me anything is possible. But after some minutes I was relieved of my anxiety, as
my name was announced. We were rushed to the rooms where interviews were being held.
After a long wait my turn came. I was very nervous. The interview began. Like all morons I decided
to act smart, and paid the price. When she asked me the most common question during an interview - "tell
me about your self ", I told her blah blah, and that I am a stock investor. As soon as I finished this sentence,
a barrage of questions were fired by her. what is future and options, what is stock price of Infosys etc etc. I
dodged all the bullets very well( at least I thought so ).And when the interview was finished I thought I did
really well( morons like me are always optimistic ).And then the "wait" started. All the songs in my i-pod
were over. People started hitting each other, when they couldn‟t bear the anxiety anymore. During all this
some people were called for "re-interview". I started thinking that how stupid these people are( morons al-
ways overestimate themselves). Just when I was enjoying the self glorifying feeling, someone shouted my
name. I was called for "re-interview ". My whole world came crashing down. I rushed to the interview
room( while rushing I wanted to plant a bomb in the Bombay stock exchange ). Anyways, this time I de-
cided not to act smart (sometimes morons also make wise decisions). This time the interview was very
smooth. She asked me some basic questions. I answered all of them. A ray of hope emerged in me after the
second interview.
After some more boring songs, the HR came with the results. Everybody started biting their nails,
some started praying, I didn‟t know what to do. One by one he started calling the names of the selected
candidates, almost all my friends‟ names were announced. And then he started reading the last paper. By
now I was sure that I would not be selected, and was making plans of going to Saudi after doing some com-
puter courses. He finished all the names on the list but one, now I was thinking of how to get the azaad visa,
and then the miracle happened. He announced my name !!!!!!!!! The last name on the list was mine. I gave
a huge shout of relief, Everybody was laughing, but I didn‟t care. The feeling didn‟t sink in for a long time.
The moron was selected!!!!

The Google Story
-Book Review

Book by David A. Vise. And Mark Malseed

BIOGRAPHY… Yeah I know. That word reads boring. But when I heard BIOGRAPHY with GOOGLE, I
thought why not. I mean I Google everything and by everything I
mean literally EVERYTHING. And then again if it got boring I
thought I‟d just leave it. So that‟s how I started reading THE
GOOGLE STORY. And I tell you if there is anything like an in-
teresting biography it is definitely this one.
The book started off with how Larry Page and Sergey Brin
- the „Google guys‟ (a term I picked from the book) met. These
two college dropouts created the worlds most happening search
engine. By the way did you know that GOOGLING is a verb in
the English dictionary which means searching for information on
the Web??
This book tells everything one needed to know about
Google like every minute details that can be made public. It gives
an amazing account of the key events in the history of Google like
the struggle these guys had to go through to find investors and fi-
nance for Google or how Google went public in 2004. And oh, the
most interesting one how the acrimony between Microsoft and
Google started.
There are so many amazing facts in the book. Like did u
know that the word GOOGOL (ten raised to the power of hun-
dred) was actually spelt wrong and that‟s how it became
GOOGLE.
Now since it‟s a biography it has to drag a bit, so after
about 200 pages it does, when the book talks about how the shares
in Google work and how the management is at Googleplex, etc, etc.
Anyway, you could always jump those chapters and get to the interesting part, like the future of
Google, the enhancements and products that the guys at Googleplex have in mind. Oh, the book also gives
some very interesting search tips. A must see.
The authors haven‟t written much about the negative aspects of Google but you know the book is interesting
enough that most readers wouldn‟t even find anything missing. And then again the authors have to highlight
the good points only right that‟s the idea of a biography.
So people that was my first biography and I would say I enjoyed it and if any of you want to start
reading biographies, you should definitely start with this one. A plus point of this book was that it was writ-
ten in layman‟s language, no technical jargons, no hi-fi computer stuff, just simple explanation for every-
thing, especially, the amazingly simple explanation for the page ranking system.
Oh and what I learnt from this book is “DON‟T BE EVIL”, a policy used at Google.
So if you have any questions about who the Google guys are?? What the Google doodle is?? Or what
Googleplex is?? Then go read this book.

Yaadein…
- To be cherished forever !

For us at 'Communique' your memories have been at the top of our priority list. Simply because, they are our
memories too. Those in final year, will soon be leaving behind a life they have lived and come to love. We
walked into this campus as immature teens and will soon be walking out as responsible adults.
We have tried our best to save your memories in print so that you can look back one day, smile and
move ahead in life. We asked people what their most memorable moment in these four years was, and here are
some of the replies we received…
