The Benefits of Weatherizing Your Home

Program: Cumberland, Salem,
Gloucester and Atlantic, including
success stories from residents
whose homes are more energy
efficient and comfortable and
from individuals who have
benefitted from meaningful
employment as installers,
technicians, and program staff.
The Weatherization Assistance
Program is a large partnership
between government agencies,
non-profit service providers, and
private sector businesses.
Services provided through the
Weatherization Program include:
• Attic insulation
• Rim joist insulation
• Pipe wrap insulation
• Mobile home insulation
• Weather stripping
• Broken glass replacement
• Caulking
• Glazing
• Heater repair or replacement
• Hot water heater repair
• Hot water heater replacement
• Refrigerator replacement
• Energy conservation measures
• Health and safety issue testing
• Carbon monoxide testing

Energy Efficiency, Cost Savings, Comfort Top The List
“My home is warmer than I can ever
remember,” writes one 77-year-old
Gloucester County resident.
“Thank you for helping me stay in my
home, warm and safe,” writes another
senior from Cumberland County.
Both seniors have received services
from Tri-County Community Action
Partnership’s Weatherization Program
and they are just two of many satisfied
customers experiencing better living
conditions and comfort as a result.
Weatherization is an energy
conservation program for low-income
households, including senior citizen
households, that provides services at no
cost to eligible participants. (For
eligibility guidelines, please see page 2).
Weatherization services range from
caulking and glazing to weather-stripping
and the replacement of broken glass in
some homes where an energy audit
performed by Weatherization staff
indicates such a need. For other
residents, services might include
installing insulation in an attic or along
rim joists or pipes as a way to better
control the effects of climate on the
home. Other program participants might
receive a new refrigerator or heater if
the audit shows that the current model
is wasting energy and driving up energy
costs unnecessarily.
“The energy audit helps staff identify
where the areas of greatest need are in
the homes where services are
requested,” said Albert B. Kelly,
President/CEO of Tri-County Community
Action Partnership.
“Our technicians use sophisticated
measures, including a specialized Blower
Door that identifies leaks and cracks, to
determine exactly what is necessary to
improve the home’s energy efficiency
and comfort so that we can put the
resources where they can do the most
good for the family and the community,”
said Kelly.
For residents living in homes in
desperate need of weatherization, the
program has been a blessing.
“There is no way I could do this for
myself,” writes one senior with limited
mobility and living on a fixed income
whose home was insulated as part of
the Weatherization program.
