Subject: Job Application Package

Summary
The purpose of this memo is to inform that my job application package has been tailored for one
specific, job posting by providing a cover letter, resume and reference page for the human resource
manager. I have include a job description, audience analysis, rhetorical analysis as well as my
recommendation on how to highly the skills I have that are necessary for this job.

Job Description
I am applying for the job of Communications Officer with the World Federation of Hemophilia, a non-
profit organization that is headquartered in Montreal, Qc. The job posting can be found on their website
at http://www.wfh.org/index.asp?lang=EN in the About WFH section under employment, though I have
included a copy in the job application package I will be submitting. The organization is looking for
someone who has strong writing, editing and productions skills with publications, newsletters and other
documents that will be needed by the different departments and committees at the organization. There
are some technical skills require such as excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office software, being
detail-oriented, organized and strong interpersonal skills. Mastery of English is a must, while fluency in
French (and Spanish) is considered advantageous.

Audience Analysis
The World Federation of Hemophilia is an international, non-profit organization that seeks to improve
the quality of life of those suffering with hemophilia and bleeding diseases. This is done by providing
medical care to those with the disease, training medical staff and producing documentation and
publications for various groups of people. While it is an international organization, the Montreal office
appears to be run by a small group of about 20-30 employees and it governed by an executive
committee.

Having some personal experience with non-profits, I know that one chapter can be run by very few
people, although amongst the different committees I would estimate about 40-50 participants. Along
with what I information I have been able to gather, I would classify this as a small- to medium-sized
organization. It has been made clear that this job will require working with different departments and
committees, so being a good team player is necessary.

Rhetorical Analysis
As a candidate for Communication Officer, I will need to show that I am able to write and create
different types of professional documents. Since the job posting mentions newsletters, announcements
and web content as part of the responsibilities, I will need to show that I have worked on these kinds of
projects. It will be important to show that I can work as team as well as on an individual basis and that I
am organized and can work on various projects at one time. Since this is a non-profit organization, I
believe it’s also important to highlight my volunteer work. By highlighting a belief and dedication to a
specific cause I wish to show that I am hard-working and committed when it comes to promoting it,
which I believe is an important aspect when it comes to working with non-profits.
Recommendations
I will be highlighting that I am the ideal candidate for this job by showing that I have strong writing and
computer skills, editing and proofreading skills as well as an ability to work with others on various
projects as one time while meeting deadlines.

Dear Ms Casavant,

I came across the Communications Officer job posting while browsing the Community Outreach website
and am writing to express my interest in this position. I am the ideal candidate for this job because of
my ability to produce, design and edit diverse, professionally-written documents, in addition to strong
computer skills and experience with non-profit organizations.

I recently completed work on UnMapped Montreal - a newsletter which promotes information on

lesser-known area attractions. I was the Visual Editor, where I was responsible for the providing the
images that accompanied each articles and designing the header and section titles. I also contributed
articles to the Arts & Culture and Outdoors sections as well as proofreading and editing the final layout.

My experience editing web content comes from my time as an editor at Montrealites.com where I have
edited the work of various contributors. I have also authored a volunteerism landing page,
backgrounders and white papers on education legislation and an ice storm emergency response kit. My
knowledge of HTML and CSS were used to help with the layout and design of the site.

I am a volunteer with a non-profit organization that provides affordable housing to low-income families.
My belief and dedication in the cause has led me to serve on the Volunteer Committee and Corporate

community. I have worked on various projects at one time where I learned to effectively manage time in
order to meet deadlines and am comfortable working in a group.

My abilities to write various types of professional documents, proficiency with computers and capacity
to work with different groups on projects make me an ideal candidate for your organization. Examples
of projects that I have worked on can be found on my portfolio site at www.cfournier.ca. Please contact
