Dear Parish Family,
Today is the Fourth Sunday of Ordinary Time. This
“winter portion” of the season is a short one. It lasts from dynamic speakers and to draw closer to God. I would like to
the end of the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord until the
beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday.
This week is filled with two special days of our
Church’s Liturgical calendar. On Wednesday the Church Treasure and for all that you do for our parish.
celebrates the Feast of the Presentation in the Temple,
which takes place 40 days after Our Savior’s Birth on
Christmas. (It’s hard to believe that nearly 40 days have
passed since Christmas!)
At first glance, the Presentation in the Temple
appears to be a peaceful scene. His parents present
Him, and they bring along an offering. The Prophets,
Simeon and Anna, ooh and aah over the Infant Savior.
But then Simeon proclaims that this child will be the rise
and downfall of many in Israel and that a sword will pierce
Mary’s heart several times.
This prophecy is still coming to reality, for we as
Catholic Christians know it is not easy to be a follower of
Christ in a society that challenges and opposes much of
what our Church teaches about the dignity of life.
As we celebrate the Feast of the Presentation (also
known as Candlemas Day), let us renew our commitment
to be disciples of the Lord and bring His light to a
darkened world.
On Thursday, February 3rd, we celebrate the Feast
of St. Blaise (see this week’s saint for more information
on his life). We will have the traditional blessing of
throats at the 8:30 am Mass on Tuesday. The prayer that
will be said during this blessing is:
“Through the intercession of St. Blaise, bishop and
martyr, may God deliver you from ailments of the throat
and from every other evil. In the name of the Father, and
of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit”.
While not an official “church tradition”, this week
begins the 2011 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal (AAA). The
AAA supports the many ministries, offices, and outreach
programs of the Archdiocese. It supports the training of
priests to serve our spiritual needs in the years ahead.
On a personal note your past generosity to the AAA has
supported seminary tuition for me and for Fr. Kevin (and
dozens of other priests). If it were not for the support of
the AAA, I would not have been able to afford the cost of
the seminary tuition. I say “thank you” for helping me
answer the Lord’s call. Your gift of Treasure will help
others answer the Lord’s call to serve the Archdiocese as
priests.
This year our parish, along with other Bergen County
parishes, is featured in the kickoff video. We will have the
video running between Masses in the vestibule of the
church next weekend. Stop by and view it.
Our goal this year is $41,522.00. Pledge envelopes
can be found in the pews, at the entrances to the church,
On March 5th there will be a Catholic Men’s Conference
at Seton Hall University. (See the article in the bulletin.) It
is a great opportunity for the men of our parish to hear some

taking the lead and overseeing the sign-ups for our parish.

In his letter to the Corinthians, St. Paul reminds us that all of
us are called to participate in the work of the Church. There
can be no excuses. We cannot say that we do not have the
time, the talents, or the skills. God can use each one of us
to help those in need.

We know more about the devotion to St. Blaise by Christians
around the world than we know about the saint himself. His feast is
observed as a holy day in some Eastern Churches. The Council of
Dates Jan. 30th through Feb. 6th, 2011 Oxford, in 1222, prohibited servile labor in England on Blaise’s feast

Reconciliation is scheduled for Saturday, February 5th
at 11:30am. Parents and children must be at church by
11:15am. You are reminded to review the lessons that
were given to you at the parent meeting. Parents are
the first teachers of their child.
First Eucharist Parent Meeting is scheduled for
Monday, February 7th at 7pm in the church auditorium.

RESPECT LIFE UPDATE
1. Gov. Chris Christie, the state's first antiabortion
governor in decades, was a keynote speaker at the 38th
March for Life in Trenton on January 24th. He stated that,
"this is an issue whose time has come." and "Every
human being is one of God's creatures. I will stand up
and speak strongly in favor of the protection of every
human life." "You have today and you have for the rest of

2. Please contact Gov. Christie and ask him to VETO
(A3273/S2393). The Planned Parenthood Federation of
America has announced a national expansion that could
double the number of abortion clinics in NJ from 3-6 by
2013. This bill would require the state to spend $1.1
million to qualify for $9 million in federal funds that would
subsidize family planning services. Your tax dollars will
continue to subsidize abortion procedures! Please act
now and contact Gov. Christie. He has given us his
support- he needs our support if, together, we are to
succeed in restoring this great country of ours to a culture

Great news to share about the Family Promise Shelter Program
7PM The Inter-religious Fellowship of Bergen County is now
the Family Promise of Bergen County. The Family
7PM Promise Program shelters up to five families each week.
Various congregations throughout Bergen County will
serve as hosts. Congregations such as ours will be
7PM
providing support in the form of cooks and chaperones.
Holy Trinity and Our Lady Queen of Peace parishes will
be supporting the Family Promise Program at Saint
Anastasia’s in Teaneck the week of March 13 through
March 19, 2011.
We are in need of two cooks at dinnertime, two
chaperones from 6-11 PM and two overnight chaperones
from 11 PM to 7:00 AM.

assist our less fortunate families in our area. Homeless
families have been waiting for months for this shelter
program to open up and the waiting list for the shelter
continues to grow.
Sign-up sheets will be in the Gathering Space of the
church starting the weekend of January 23, 2011.
There will be a Prayer Service and Organizational
Meeting in the Holy Trinity School Cafeteria in early
March. A date and time will be announced shortly.

Loyola House of Retreats
Men’s Weekend: April 1-3, 2011
Women’s Weekend: April 15-17, 2011
The Ignatius Spiritual Retreat offers a time to relax, away
from business problems and family worries; a time to
reflect and get a fresh slant on your life; a time to pray, to
reawaken a sense of the reality of God and to grow in the
precious gift of faith.
The “silent” retreat begins with dinner on Friday at 7:15
pm. The retreat consists of 4 talks, which guide you
toward prayer, optional private consultations, sacrament
of reconciliation, Healing Mass, Rosary and plenty of time
for private prayer. It will end on Sunday after Mass and
lunch.
Cost: Free Will Offering
