Julia Langer

Director, Global Threats Program

Julia lead’s WWF-Canada’s climate change campaign with the ambitious long-term
mission of ensuring that Canada develops an energy-efficient, sustainably-powered,
carbon-neutral economy. She represents WWF-Canada on the WWF delegation to
United Nations climate change summits, advances policy and programmes to address
climate change at national and provincial levels, and works with regional and local
partners to address inevitable effects of global warming on nature and people.

Julia joined WWF-Canada in 1992 to establish the Wildlife Toxicology Program, and is
still responsible for projects aimed at reducing the risk from toxic chemicals such as
pesticides that harm people and wildlife. Prior to taking on the climate change file, she
managed WWF’s marine/coastal conservation program in Cuba including initiatives to
establish marine protected areas, protect endangered marine turtles, and advance
sustainable fishing and tourism.

During her tenure as Executive Director of Friends of the Earth, Julia developed popular
campaigns to protect the ozone layer, fight global warming, re-forest urban areas,
promote organic gardening, and help individuals participate in environmental protection.

She served as Policy Advisor to former Ontario Minister of the Environment Jim Bradley
and has worked with various organizations including Pollution Probe, the Canadian
Environmental Law Research Foundation, Great Lakes United and the Federation of
Canadian Municipalities. Julia serves on the Board of Directors of the Organic
Landscape Alliance, Clean Air Partnership and Toronto Atmospheric Fund.

Julia holds a degree in Environmental Sciences (Toxicology) from the University of


Toronto.
