Philips Fibre Optic Lighting Systems create an entirely new world of

PMMA cables, light can be sent around corners, through walls, and

There is no heat dissipation with fibre optics, and no ultraviolet or

infrared radiation. So in addition to displaying everyday products,

Philips fibre optic lighting solutions are ideal for sensitive materials

such as fresh food, works of art, paper, delicate fabrics (clothes)

and leather goods.

In decorative applications too, the unsurpassed design freedom of the

fibre optic concept puts virtually no restrictions on how light sources

are arranged. Objects can be illuminated from very nearby, or even

from inside the object. Hundreds of miniature terminations can be

placed in ceilings, building facades, and monuments to enhance drama

Wherever light is used to guide people, Philips fibre optic lighting can

provide the maintenance-free, vandal-resistant solution. In applications

such as traffic signs, light points in pavements, and corridor lighting

lines the Philips fibre optic lighting terminations will illuminate the

exact spots that need light, but the generators can be safely stored

up to 30 metres away.

With a choice of end-light and side-light cables, as well as dynamic,

changing light colours, Philips fibre optic lighting solutions provide

new opportunities to create functional directional lighting that’s also

 Ideal for hard-to-reach places

In hard-to-reach places, such as high ceilings and building

facades, accessing and re-lamping conventional luminaires

can be problematic. Not so with fibre optics.The high-

powered generators can be located in easy-to-reach

places, so when the lamp does need replacing, dozens of

different light sources are restored in an instant, without

disturbing the light scene. In fountains and pools too, fibre

optics eliminates the potential hazards of mixing water and

electricity. With only light being transmitted through the

cables there is never a risk of electrical shocks.

has been introduced. Cable ends
are protected at delivery with a
sparkling cap to scatter the energy
and to avoid damage to the
surrounding objects.

polymethylmethacrylate PMMA, a
pure methacrylate.This is the best
known material to convey light
over long distances. Combined
with specific metal halide lamps,
PMMA conveys the full spectrum
of the lamp without visible colour
drift and maintains light properties
over distances of up to 30 metres.
With a bending radius of 25-30
mm, PMMA cables are flexible and
easy to install.
Octopus and FOCUS harnesses
In the FOCUS system, part of the
optical train is integrated in the
connecting end of the harness.The
construction is thus different and a
combination of a FOCUS harness
with an Octopus generator, or vice
versa, is not possible.
