Status Update and Competitive Comparison
X-ray of Competitor’s 3L500 device
Physical comparison of TI vs Competitor

ƒ Due to the competitor’s die aspect ratio, the design is

not optimized for the application
ƒ The increased width of the die, increases RON and
effective net delay because of the physical increase in
input to output circuitry
ƒ Placement of the bond pads makes it difficult to match
specs from one channel to other
ƒ Wire lengths to the end pins are 3x the length of the
wires to the center pins; adds to the delta RON/CON

Assembly file for Competitor’s design

ƒ Staggered bond pad allows for a slimmer die width and

optimized wire bonds
ƒ TI’s High Aspect Ratio Chip (HARC) design allows us to
reduce the physical silicon area from input-to-output to
achieve:
• Lower RON and delta RON (channel-to-channel)
• Lower CON and delta CON (channel-to-channel)
• Improved pin-to-pin skew performance which is
critical for this application

Device Description Logic Diagram

The SN74CBT34X245 provides 32 bits of high-
speed TTL-compatible bus switching. The
device can be organized as four 8-bit bus
switches, two 16-bit bus switches, or one 32-bit
bus switch. The low on-state resistance of the
switch allows connections to be made with
minimal propagation delay.
